BMW thefts continue
- BMWgone (20th Apr 2017 - 07:26:21)

Another BMW silently stolen from outside a Liphook house last night.
If you have a BMW or Mini, find a way to make sure you hear your car going. If you can :-(

Are you saying there have been a number of these stolen recently; please can you be more specific?

I think I've just found the number plate from this car along with a sat nav holder and some medical supplies. I've reported it to the police via 101.

Debbie

Can you contact me on bmw AT lazatek . co . uk

If you have the reference number I can marry it up to the theft.

Thank you!

Having checked it out it's not a sat nav holder it's a mobile phone holder that slots into a CD player I think. I haven't touched these items and8 I very much doubt the police will collect them so if the owner would like them back I'm more than happy for the editor to pass on my email address and I'll let you know where they are.

How about a good old fashioned steering lock, the big yellow one, might deter them.

Re: BMW thefts continue

Police may want to see if there are prints.
You can contact me on (spam protected spaced out) email above.
Very grateful for help!

Wonder how many more have gone last night.

Steering locks a breeze to hack through and NO deterrent to making a quick £5k for a stolen car!

A PCSO was on the scene at about 10.45am bagging up the discarded contents of the car...she also retrieved the number plate...

Hi BMWgone,
I've tried the email that you gave but it doesn't seem to work.. The police didn't give me a reference number they just took my details just in case they needed to eliminate my fingerprints but as I told them I didn't touch anything I doubt they'll be in touch. I gave them the number plate (personalised) so you should be able to tie it in with that. Good luck.

Hi Debbie/Bill

Where were these discarded? Interesting to know if this is an area that has been used before for this kind of thing.

About the only device that slows the thief down is a Diskloc.
Ironic that modern day electronics are trumped by a simple 1980s device.
Also if you have a high value car consider getting Gap insurance to cover or help cover the shortfall between the insurance company's market value and actual replacement cost of your car.

Wrapping both main and spare car keys in tin foil blocks the radio signal. Or put keys in metal box in house.

Re: BMW thefts continue

Car thefts had virtually died out till some bright spark decided new car owners couldn't be bothered fumbling with car keys, especially at the top end of the market..

So they decided to trust all their security in a chip, most of us foresaw it ending in tears, now every schoolboy with an Ipad can get into them and the car companies are in denial.

Apparently you should now keep your keys in the fridge for security, so they can't be hacked quite as easily, it's called progress. Next fad will be to do away with front door keys I suppose, it'll save you the hassle of unlocking your front door but might be a bit of a pain carrying the fridge everywhere..
