Re: CAR STOLEN

Re: CAR STOLEN

Yes that is the correct car

That's bad news. Sorry to hear that. For any high value vehicle it might be worth fitting a vehicle tracker. Tracker Retrieve is good. If you order direct from Tracker they supply and fit within a few days at your home. You can usually purchase a 3 year package which works out cheaper. It can give you access to cheaper insurance and apparently cars are usually located 48 hours after being reported stolen.

Tracker blockers are available online, so that rules out trackers null and void

It seems this wasn't the only BMW that has been stolen in Liphook last night!

Also petersfield rugby club was broken into last night, money taken they also broke into the safe but luckily was empty. This follows the armed robbery in Grayshott!

What is happening!!!! And there seems little information or warnings being issued by local police.

Re: CAR STOLEN
- MRE (9th Feb 2016 - 21:37:54)

I have heard that there were three BMW's stolen in Liphook last night!

Also there was a break-in at Petersfield Rugby Club and also an armed robbery in Grayshott at the weekend!

Maybe we all need to keep our eyes open

BMW STOLEN 09/02/16 Liphook & BMW WARNING
- VT (9th Feb 2016 - 22:35:06)

Hi.
my car was stolen last night also from Chalcraft Close. info and details shared with police and other victim last night.

I've posted it on Facebook anyway but need to get this message out as its happening quite a lot around liphook.

Warning. anyone with a modern BMW with the smart key or keyless entry.
I had my car stolen early this morning. i have spoken to the insurance company and BMW and this is quite common.
i wont let you know what they do but they can remove your car quickly and quietly.
Get it to Barons Hindhead or a BMW garage and get them to check it and remedy it before its too late. Shame BMW aren't too proactive to get this resolved

Thank you so much for putting this on here. We all need to be extra vigilant at night for each other.

I spoke to Barons at Hindhead this morning, and they claim that there is nothing that they can do prevent a BMW being stolen in the way described in these posts.

here are some links. ask them to disable the comfort access.

here are some other things you can try. maybe a combination.

also if you search the net to secure OBD there are hints out there for other things.

Re: BMW STOLEN 09/02/16 Liphook & BMW WARNING
- Emma (10th Feb 2016 - 14:28:26)

Unfortunately it isnt just BMWs that have this problem,

It's all keyless/fob entry cars.

BMW's, Audi's, Mercedes, Range Rovers and the most common to have problems with thefts relating to keyless entry, with BMW's and Mercedes being the 3rd and 4th most stolen cars in the UK with ford close behind.

They break into the vehicles a number of ways, from using a device to block the radio signals when a victim uses their electronic key to lock the vehicle, to smashing the driver’s side window.

Once inside the vehicle, they plug a device into the on-board diagnostic port (OBD) which allows them to download the vehicle's electronic information onto a blank key. This key is then compatible with the car, allowing them to drive the vehicle away. This process can take just seconds.

Suggested ways of helping to make this harder for these cars to be stolen are:

  • Use a steering wheel lock and/or gearstick lock.
  • Consider having an on-board diagnostics (OBD) lock fitted.
  • Consider fitting a tracker, so that if your car is stolen, there is more chance of finding it.

    - Julian (10th Feb 2016 - 16:49:46)

Latest Trackers can't be totally blocked. Some of us need one just to get theft insurance. Possibly it is older BMW's that are more vulnerable to key programming theft?

Re: BMW STOLEN 09/02/16 Liphook & BMW WARNING
    - Julian (10th Feb 2016 - 17:40:48)

For later model BMWs ( F Generation onwards) there is software update that is designed to
prevent OBD key reprogramming theft. All New BMW cars should now have it. Older cars that are compatible will have the update applied when serviced by BMW. If you use another independent garage this may not have happened so it is best to check with your Approved BMW dealer.

    - MH (10th Feb 2016 - 18:01:39)

I too drive a BMW and was told last night to put the smart key in an aluminium tin out of range of its ability to lock/unlock the car.

Sounds odd, but makes some sense due to potentially blocking the radio waves if the car is parked on the drive and therefore within range of the key. However, clearly this advice is irrelevant if the robbers have planted a device nearby or smash the window. Also tracking devices can be disabled with minimal effort by professional thieves.

    - Brian (10th Feb 2016 - 18:01:49)

As Emma has pointed out this is not just BMWs. Still, one can't help but be surprised at why just BMWs here. The met police have a whole section on this and how to protect yourself:

    police.uk/Site/keylessvehicletheft

The whole thing still depends on them getting access into the car.

    - Belinda Mitchelll (10th Feb 2016 - 18:26:13)

Both cars were stolen from Chalcraft Close early hours between 12am - 3am, mine was the BMW X1 HK10EYK- both cars were secure! My feelings; this is an organised crime targeting Liphook as I have heard of other BMW's been stolen over the last few weeks. Anyone with a key fob, should look at getting additional security for their car ie steering lock.

The number plate for the silver bmw is outside the chicken farm entrance on chiltley lane. Saw it there on my way home this evening. They probably stopped there to switch plates. Might be worth going and picking it up regarding finger prints?
