Who's next
- AF (25th Nov 2024 - 16:29:08)
So Comrade Starmer in just a few months has managed to upset the following - 80% of the elderly cutting heating allowance, farmers, people trying to find jobs less positions due to NI increase, anyone with a mortgage as economic policies are causing inflation to rise so no more interest rates cuts.
Who's he going to upset next.

Quite amateur and ridiculous you roll out the “comrade” tropes towards a political party the Majority of this very country voted for democratically.

Re: Who's next
- Steve Cooke (25th Nov 2024 - 18:20:59)
Based on recent evidence, democracy is clearly overrated and somewhat flawed! Just look around, the majority of people are ignorant and ill informed, highlighted by recent elections and referendum results.

Re: Who's next
- Old head (25th Nov 2024 - 18:47:15)
About right A/F this government misled the young voters with what they wanted to hear have now shown their true colours same old labour with huge wage rises for public workers letting unions run riot with their pay rise demands completely ruining business . We have a chancellor that has no experience in running a business let alone a country. The old chestnut about a black hole quite ridiculous. Any party would be better than this lot they are going to drag this country into the dark ages.

Re: Who's next
- Oldie (26th Nov 2024 - 11:05:26)
Seems the country wants another election because they are not impressed with this one . Can see their point complete disaster going back on all their manifesto massive rise in taxes to pay huge wages to the public sector, not doing anything to stop illegal emigration boats just standing back and letting anyone in . Letting unions run riot putting businesses out of business completely ruining the railways . That’s just for starters, the conservative government didn’t get it right but it wasn’t this bad, the new leader of the conservatives seems to be getting it right more like Mrs Thatcher the best PM we have had. She’s talking sense think she would make a very good PM .

Oh I forgot to mention they've also upset the armed forces, getting rid of old equipment before the replacements are ready.

Re: Who's next
- Paul2 (26th Nov 2024 - 13:49:11)
The comment about Labour being elected 'by the majority' doesn't hold statistical truth.
I think Pete means Labour achieved a House of Commons majority in terms of MP numbers.
That's not the same as winning the most number of votes cast by the public / share of the votes - which tells a different story.

Re: Who's next
- er (26th Nov 2024 - 13:59:18)
Utterly ridiculous, we had a vote, at the time I said 'be careful what you wish for' because I remember the 70s (when apparently all us old folk had it so good!) when we had picket lines and power cuts and people freezing with no heating, lights or water etc.
I said don't just react with a knee jerk reaction because you 'hate' Boris, be aware who you are voting instead, they are all as bad as each other and in hoc to the money, Labour will be no miracle cure!
Shut up, they all told me, don't you understand Boris had a glass of wine at a working lunch while we were drinking tea, we can never forgive, whatever the cost!
Everybody falling over themselves to vote Labour and ignore everything else
Good, now you've got Labour for 5 years!
You won, I can live with the democratic vote, don't need another one, even though it didn't go my way
So stop whining😁

"Who's he going to upset next."
@AF, just saw something online that might hit the nail on the head!
No-one. Because everyone that they can upset, have been upset. And there will be no more tax rises, because there's nothing left to tax :)

Re: Who's next
- Oldie (26th Nov 2024 - 16:48:48)
Forgot the chancellor has shafted us oldies no winter heating allowance and of course all assurances for older people gone through the roof so no more holidays abroad so being old with this government is just not good. And the farmers that feed us have been completely shafted. This government needs to go .

Re: Who's next
- AF (26th Nov 2024 - 17:28:47)
Paul2 - This is the Labour party we're talking about there's always something to tax.
Despite what they say remember this it's me and you who pay eventually for any tax rise.
Increase tax on companies like they did with the NI rise and the companies put up rices to pay for it.

Re: Who's next
- Charlie (26th Nov 2024 - 18:05:20)
Pete The result of the General Election may, under our present electoral system, be called democratic but if you look at the vote share and number of seats the result was not what I call democratic:
Labour 33.7% 411 seats
Conservative 23.7% 121 seats
Reform 14.3% 5 seats
Lib.Dem 12.2% 71 seats
Do the maths!

Re: Who's next
- Pete (not op) (28th Nov 2024 - 09:21:10)
Sorry but this whole thread is pathetic. Less than 6 months power trying to undo some of the mess the last lot left after their 14years.
There is something very amiss in society when aiming to give people lower down the social scale a boost in income is castigated and yet we quite happily pay millions to sportspersons, celebrities, influencers, and people on boards of companies working 4hr weeks. Its just all very sad.
As for the childish petition doing the rounds, am I the only one that remembers the blatent lies regarding the EU referendum and being told quite veciforicly (including on this site) "You lost get over it".
Well same rules apply, at least you will get another chance in four years although if you still feel things are that bad. That said I get the distinct impression thet even if we have full employment a four day working week, a £20 minimun wage and noi national debt a fair few posters above would still vote for the last shower.

Well Pete I bet you feel better for that post . I’m just going to the charity shop to get another coat just had to turn my heating off can’t afford it . Expect the union bosses train drivers public sector workers and as of today tube drivers will be turning their heating UP . So much for helping the not so well off . This government is the pits the worst government for a very long time and I have lived through a lot and every labour government has gone the same way only this one has got there quicker.

Pete (not op)
Absolutely spot on, well done. Remember you are fighting against the same individuals on this site who always join the bandwagon with their Daily Mail opinions.
What they hope to achieve by continually venting off on a silly little village website is far beyond me. All I do know is that many have switched off from this site with their continued preaching and force feeding their opinions down everyone's throat. A great shame because fundamentally this area could be really beneficial and informative to everyone local and not just the usual contributors blasting away at one another over any item.
I'm obviously aware that you do not have to visit or digest some of the tripe that is written on here but I would respectfully suggest some of you have a long hard look at yourselves and really ask does it make a difference?
Sit back and wait for it all now.
Have a great day everybody.

Re: Who's next
- Charlie (28th Nov 2024 - 15:39:03)
Pete I absolutely take your point that this government has only been in power for less than 6 months. However the damage they have done so far will be difficult to repair and yes, God help us, we have another four and half years to look forward to. I am holding no brief for any of the other parties either but I think what I dislike most about the Labour Party and its leaders is their absolute hypocrisy - champagne socialists - and I know that I don't have to list on this site all of their hypocritical actions - they have been well publicised. The Labour Party is based on envy and greed and their mantra is "if we cannot all have it, nobody shall except the bosses". Dumming down has always been their byword. Have you ever read "Animal Farm"? With regard to your reference to people paying millions to sportspersons etc etc it is a free country and there is very little any government can do about it. I know that there are many people who need help and support but there are also a great many scroungers just using the benefits system and my biggest criticsm of the Labour Party is the payouts they have given to train drivers and others in the public sector whilst many small businesses, self employed and pensions are really struggllng. So Pete take off your blinkers and look at the whole picture and accept that it is an imperfect world where there will always be people who have the knack of making a great deal of money. However without wealth in a country there can be no growth.

Re: Who's next
- Pensioner (28th Nov 2024 - 17:40:48)
Spot on Charlie . Wealth creates wealth. You don’t take from the less well off and give to the higher earning. The public sector workers were not in need of a massive pay rise same as the train drivers shocking. If you don’t look after business and large corporations it all goes down the pan . As in the car industry completely ruined by greedy unions, unions need to be controlled at the moment they are running riot causing untold damage.
It’s all happened before as us older generation know only too well, the young voters will learn the hard way you have to have people willing to put their money where their mouth is and run businesses and large corporations to employ the masses the way this government is going they will all be gone and everyone will be out of work.

Re: Who's next
- Peter (28th Nov 2024 - 19:46:22)
Having read most of what is on this site over the years typically seeking useful local info and jumping over and avoiding the rants etc I have to say given I have never commented before, I have found the truest sentence ever posted.
"What they hope to achieve by continually venting off on a silly little village website is far beyond me."
This place is amateur town for the amateur troll as you effectively addressing a crowd of a hand full of people, possibly less given everyone gets to make up their own names, I wouldn’t be surprised some of them forget the last fake name they used or whatever trolly rant they posted and then later reply to or start fighting themselves unknowingly.
I suggest you take a look at yourselves and consider how embarrassing and pathetic it all is, and why bother. Not to everyone of course, just the hidden trolls. You wouldn’t dare or get away with it if you had to validate yourself with an email address and photo etc like Facebook, yet here you are tearing strips out of each other like your going to change larger wider issues or indeed just be heard etc.
I suggest the editor keeps a record, sends a warning to the email address or even just validate them by requesting a response and then ban the email address or made up name as whilst the site is gaining traffic it’s actually a race to the bottom.

Well it seems the Labour party have run out of options. They have no new policy’s they seem to have come to a dead end. Are we going to see the same as France complete turmoil and perhaps a revolt against this terrible government. We can’t go on being lead by incompetent useless cabinet.
