Liphook Carnival 2024
- Steve Cooke (16th Nov 2024 - 09:18:04)

Good to see members of the carnival committee engaging on Talkback. I have a simple question

How much money did this years carnival make for charity please?

Re: Liphook Carnival 2024
- Samuel Hawkins (16th Nov 2024 - 11:08:44)

Mr Cooke! How are you Sir? 😊

Thanks for reaching out.

Twas never my intention to engage on talk back as I'm not certain I can maintain consistency given there's no notification of reply without physically logging on. I was originally drawn in to respond to a negative comment, or as us Vets say - 'shots fired' (which is rule number one on what NOT to do) 😅
But here we are.

To answer your question -
I am pleased to say the carnival raised £2900 via the buckets on carnival night.
Although not a record breaking sum, it's money straight back to our local charities.

We'll be announcing the distribution of funds in our February AGM at the social club, which of course all residents are welcome to.
I'll be sure to leave you a pint behind the bar 🫡

Kind Regards
Samuel Hawkins

Thank you Sam. Are you able to disclose how much the event cost to put on please? I know that in recent years it was a worry that the books didn’t balance, hopefully this year with the better organisation the event no longer runs at a loss?

Steve Cooke your fishing hope you’re not one of those trying to stop the carnival. If it makes a loss we will have to do something about it get some more sponsors we can’t lose the carnival now that it’s back up and running. So perhaps all people that keep putting the knife in should support instead. It doesn’t Matter if it doesn’t break even this lovely community of ours will think of something. More donations from businesses perhaps.

Hello again, Mr. Cooke.

Thank you for your interest in the carnival’s operations. We’re incredibly grateful for the community's ongoing support.

While I’m unable to disclose the intricacies of our costings due to ethical obligations and commercial agreements with certain sponsors, I can share that our funds are in constant need of replenishment as we often break even. Our main priority is ensuring all donations collected during the carnival directly support local charities, which means we rely on sponsorships and community events, like the Fun Day, to cover operational costs.

Looking ahead, we're working towards a more business-minded approach within the committee. This shift will allow us to plan further in advance and ultimately increase the carnival’s sustainability and benefit to the community.

Best regards,
Samuel Hawkins

So Steve had already asked h0w much money was raised and got an answer in November.

Still unhappy he carried in asking for fine details.

It appears those fine details will be discussed/announced at the AGM, just like many organisations do.

Why do a few individuals give these volunteers such a hard time? Go to the meeting and get your answers. If they're not forthcoming then ask, either in person or via email to the committee. Simples!

It's because people can hide behind an alias on this platform and bate with the funds raised and then follow up with interrogating on the inner costings to justify a way to build momentum on cancelling the carnival! It's so obvious and has been attempted time and time again by newer residents or disgruntled buzz kills.

Here is the point and case!... the bloke asking about financials clearly has an alternate motive and is highly likely the same bloke with different names commenting on his post It's laughable.

Thankfully.... the sensible residents can see right through plonkers like this.

Unbelievable! Clearly stirring up unnecessary tension. I ws on the committee in 87 - 90 and had the same morons back then the only difference is now they have the intenet.

WELL-DONE liphook carnival committee, keep up the gr8 wrk

I am the owner of a local business, we used to sponsor the carnival but have not been asked in some time.
On the back of these posts from very few supposed 'Local' residents we would like to become a sponsor again.

Goes to show there's no such thing as bad press, even though there's a fringe minority who wish to cause division.

Long live the carnival.

Yes probably been retired 19 years. Great to have more sponsors for the carnival they are always looking for more in any shape or form. My first appearance in the carnival was in 1951 or there a a bouts been in a great many since pretty well all categories. I hope all the new people and family’s get involved because it’s such a great event and it doesn’t take much to enter a float we have done one on the morning of the carnival with wheelie bins and won the category so much fun .

Steve, I cant understand why you are making such an issue of this, these volunteers are good enough to give up there time for this very good cause, you like most people should trust them. If you are who I think you are, the brother of Phil, then I fully understand your attitude!

We should find solace in the fact that its 'blokes' like 'Steve' that would rather sit there with pringle crumbs falling down his anorak whilst others use their own time, some of which have young families to do something constructive for the community.

There's 3 reasons why you would attack the carnival -

1)You don't like fireworks.
2)You don't like kids.
3)You're a natural buzz kill.

All 3 are a massive minority opinion, with option 2 being somewhat suspect and probably irrelevant in Steve's case as I would hazard from his online enthusiasm that he does... indeed... like kids.

There are some very cryptic comments appearing in the last two posts? Please explain? Also what has being Phil’s brother got to do with it?
