The Premier shop
- Rob (25th Jan 2023 - 18:34:53)

So, a new convenience store coming in liphook, where Liphook travel used to be, that'll be a bit crazy for parking.

Re: The Premier shop
- Sam (25th Jan 2023 - 23:49:34)

Short walk for many, more parking than Gables or indeed many little shops across the whole country. good stuff

Re: The Premier shop
- AF (26th Jan 2023 - 08:41:44)

I like to support new business but do we need another convenience store, we have the co-op just up the road from this new one, and if people thought ahead they could buy the stuff they need from Sainsburys.

Re: The Premier shop
- Local (26th Jan 2023 - 09:48:38)

The more businesses we have the more choices we have. And it makes the others look to their laurels and possibly keep prices down.

Re: The Premier shop
- Helen (26th Jan 2023 - 10:44:04)

Hi also sometimes in convenience shops the opening hours are longer than the supermarkets, and if someone wants to get a quick sandwich they may not have the waiting times at the tills. At least it is one less empty shop.

Re: The Premier shop
- Shopper (26th Jan 2023 - 10:47:47)

We could do with an Aldi or Lidl everywhere else has at least one, Petersfield has both, why do we get everything we don't want but seldom what we do here?

Re: The Premier shop
- Wendy (26th Jan 2023 - 10:51:50)

We could do with a newsagents down Station Road (like there used to be) - easier to park etc etc. At least the new convenience store opening in the old Liphook Travel is not going to be a takeaway or restaurant or come to that an Estates Agents!

Re: The Premier shop
- (Another, but not 'that' Paul) (26th Jan 2023 - 11:47:31)

@Rob - straight in with the subject of parking and predictions of doom LOL. What about the many sensible people who will walk to the new store?

It must be exhausting being permanently negative.

Re: The Premier shop
- geoff holland (26th Jan 2023 - 13:07:15)

In reply to Shopper, no we don't need an Aldi or Lidl, that's where poor people go to shop. We're better than that in Liphook.

Re: The Premier shop
- Wendy (26th Jan 2023 - 13:48:08)

Geoff, what a pathetic comment.

Re: The Premier shop
- passfield resident (26th Jan 2023 - 14:02:04)

Paul-perhaps you are being ironic (but not funny) or perhaps yours is just a nasty, snotty post

Re: The Premier shop
- PR (26th Jan 2023 - 14:03:39)

Geoff Holland

Your posting is, at the very least, offensive.

Re: The Premier shop
- paul (26th Jan 2023 - 14:21:43)

Hi,
A down-market convenience store, on an already busy Headley road for parking, and in and out traffic.

The 3000+ chain is owned by Tesco, and maybe for the ever growing Liphook population, this site looks attractive for the company..
The business will be owned by a local independent retailer.

I wish any new business in our village success (no empty units looking like a ghost, tumbledown weed place).
This will attract a late night youth crowd, with possible drugs, and local crime.

Apart from that good luck!

Re: The Premier shop
- John (26th Jan 2023 - 15:54:15)

Geoff Holland,
Are you the same Geoff Holland I see coming out of Lidl, Aldi and Poundland carrying a Waitrose bag?

Re: The Premier shop
- gareth j rees (26th Jan 2023 - 16:03:03)

great news

more shops, more choice, better local economy

Re: The Premier shop
- Chrissie (26th Jan 2023 - 16:39:02)

Hi all I like that the empty unit will have a purpose, BUT, has anyone stopped to think that there is only a handful of spaces for this unit! Staff parking and people who don't know how to walk to the shops. Also I mentioned to the vets staff about this and they had no idea it was a possibility!
I agree Sainsburys needs some competition but by a major supermarket, Morrisons, Asda etc. not some 'convenience' store.

Re: The Premier shop
- passfield resident (26th Jan 2023 - 17:19:18)

Chrissie raises a good point about the vet surgery. If parking in other parts of Liphook is anything to go on, people using the new shop would inevitably sometimes park in the vet surgery's spaces and people bringing animals who need to park close by will find there aren't any spaces.

Where's the Aldi in petersfield?

Re: The Premier shop
- Helen (26th Jan 2023 - 21:06:29)

Just looked it up and Aldi Petersfield is in Frenchman’s Road. I do not think it has been open long.

Re: The Premier shop
- M (27th Jan 2023 - 07:43:27)

Just wondering how you know about this Rob?
There's no planning application or mention on any websites.
Can you enlighten us all on your source please.

Re: The Premier shop
- daveL (27th Jan 2023 - 12:52:14)

I think Rob is stirring it up and having a laugh at everyone.

Re: The Premier shop
- Helen (27th Jan 2023 - 13:40:36)

Possibly someone has shown an interest in the lease but it may not come to anything. It would be empty for many more months anyway yet.

Re: The Premier shop
- paul (27th Jan 2023 - 22:34:41)

Hi,
As any empty viable retail premises in Liphook, what do we need or want?

Re: The Premier shop
- Helen (28th Jan 2023 - 15:13:51)

Retailers come forward and provided there is no change of use required by the council there is no other test required to take out a lease on a premises. What is needed or desired is not really a factor or we would not have so many estate agents in Liphook.

Re: The Premier shop
- David Lambert (30th Jan 2023 - 19:17:17)

Geoff Holland,
I don't know you and and I don't want to either.
What a ****head you are and what a snobbish statement.
My wife and I go to Lidl in Bordon at least once every month and we often see people that live in Liphook and some are very wealthy
People shop where the best value is to them.
It could be TESCO, M&S. SAINSBURY'S ASDA CO-OP the list goes on it's called making your own choice.

Re: The Premier shop
- paul (30th Jan 2023 - 21:13:47)

Hi,
Yes I agree, and is a poor form comment from Geoff.

People do shop for value, immaterial of financial status, now or in the future.

In my long experience of Liphook, I would say the more affluent of our village society, are more "careful" with their spending.
This is less than the general population, and maybe how they got there.

Whatever new retail shops open now, or in the future, they all need our support to survive.
Hope they and make Liphook a good place to live, and shop.

Re: The Premier shop
- jmb (6th Feb 2023 - 12:24:10)

an over priced chain 2 mins from the coop.. race to the bottom

Re: The Premier shop
- Local (6th Feb 2023 - 12:53:47)

Any new shop most welcome. We need choices for everything. So hopefully someone will take the shop.

Re: The Premier shop
- Salty (1st May 2023 - 12:48:31)

Looks like it's coming then according to the banner over the frontage, look forward to parking chaos and feel sorry for the Vets.

Re: The Premier shop
- local me (1st May 2023 - 14:11:24)

While the parking may look insufficient on the face of it, don't forget our planning laws are trying to enforce less driving and more walking, cycling, etc.

Change isn't something to fear, let's all start to walk more, this is a convenience store, not one for the weekly shopping, just walk or use a trolley folk.

Driving to a local shop for most of us is unnecessary and harmful, even the posh expensive electric cars create pollution, CO2, child expolitation in other countries and that's before you mention all the degredation of rubber from tyre use which is now a major pollutant of our environment, electric cars being far heavier are worse at it (and more likely to become obsolete quicker like all tech).

This is a capitalist society we need more choice and variety to benefit from it, every other town has a far wider choice of shops than us.

Now a Lidl or Aldi, more choice for the consumer, more jobs for our aspiring school leavers, please, we can live in hope!

Re: The Premier shop
- Salty (2nd May 2023 - 15:18:17)

Thanks for the lecture Local me.

You have missed my basic points.

Re: The Premier shop
- local me (3rd May 2023 - 11:34:02)

Well salty, your basic point seemed to be that there would be 'parking chaos' and then something about feeling sorry for a vet, which is subjective, sorry if I somehow appear to have completely missed your basic point, it seems I somehow went off to speak about why there needn't necessarily be parking chaos!

There seem to be no more than 3 parking spaces at present and it's hard to see how even the poor drivers of Liphook could create chaos with 3 cars, despite their seeming inability to indicate at mini roundabouts!

There are many Premier stores and similar around the country and they have no parking at all, because as I mentioned whilst completely missing your point, these are convenience stores, not supermarkets, therefore they are aimed predominately at locals, who should be capable of walking or cycling to the local shop, a real benefit to Liphook and the environment:)

Good luck with village shopping.

Re: The Premier shop

Paul have you been in the shop or are you just assuming ?

Re: The Premier shop
- Paul (11th Jun 2023 - 14:50:19)

Hi d,
Yes I have visited, my previous comments still apply.

Maybe a sugar rush teeth decaying sweets haven, for the school children passing during school term.

Beer cave is great!

Re: The Premier shop
- BOF (11th Jun 2023 - 21:39:30)

No Lidl or Aldi will come to Liphook as the catchment is too small. Great quality for low prices. I may have worked for them 😉. Scale = amazing quality to price ratio. Not locally focussed though.

Premier range will be pure convenience. 30% drink, distress purchase, tobacco and vape and snacks…. schools kids will flock as Sainsbugs only allows 2 kids in at a time - so very backward when Bohunt kids are pretty well behaved.

Lots of talk here. Maybe there is a need for a local store run by volunteers- like Milland. So much local great produce. I’d be happy to help with my retail knowledge…..

Take a chill pill people.
