Traffic Lights
- Anne (8th Dec 2022 - 09:23:32)

Does anyone know how long the temporary traffic lights are going to be in the square for? Only needing to know to ensure I'm not late getting to do a pickup and drop off at the train station tomorrow.

2 weeks apparently

Sorry - no idea. If it is the Swish Broadband people then it could be days.

But this keeps happening. The problem is that the County Council and District Council allows whoever is doing the work to treat the Square as one road and not the cross roads that it is. Today it is Portsmouth Road, Haslemere Road, and Midhurst Road feeding into The Square to try and get through one set of traffic lights. Last year we had London Road, Headley Road, and Longmoor Road trying the same trick and it could easily take well over 1/2 hour to get through.

I have written to the Councils on numerous occassions about this and they don't get it. Please could other write as the more who complain the more they are likely to respond sensibly.

Hopefully in the future people will look back and laugh at the idea of tech companies burying their cables under tarmac! Seems a very old fashioned method, causes disruption, and has a large environmental impact carrying out the works / repairs.

Today's problems with the Square are caused by Southern Gas Networks finally fixing the gas leak at the end of Headley Road by the new nursery building. The Square has smelt of gas for over a week now, with a BT cover left open to dissipate the build up of gas in the hole.

So is it going to take me over an hour to get from Liphook to Beacon Hill every morning for the next two weeks? ARGH!!!!

Re: Traffic Lights

There was a gas smell there in the spring when we were planting the flowers. No one seemed to want to know then.

So why was it necessary to have four-way traffic lights operating after 3.50pm when all the workers had buggered off?

Not sure about today but they were still working yesterday at 2130.
Could possibly be waiting for concrete to cure tonight which will take some time given the temperature!

Re: Traffic Lights

5pm - traffic lights inoperative, traffic moving freely
6pm - 4-way traffic lights on, gridlock

No difference in worker numbers (zero) or activity between 5pm and 6pm. Doubt any works were completed in that time, seems the traffic lights were unnecessary.

Being cleared now

Re: Traffic Lights

Wish they would clear all the unwanted signs the one on the slip road at Griggs green has been there months saying no road markings just a joke. Perhaps our county councillor could do something about it.
