Chicken sitter needed near the Square - Debra Scriven (12th Oct 2021 - 15:11:40)
Looking for someone to let out my 4 friendly pet chickens in the morning (any time between 7 and 9am) and put them to bed in the evening (6pm ish) for a few days at the start of half term. Free range eggs in return. Longmoor Road, opposite Bohunt.

For a moment I thought you had left the "h" out and it was about the driving in the square..
Best post for ages.
Re: Chicken sitter needed near the Square - Chicken Keeper (14th Oct 2021 - 09:59:16)
I've had the same problem before so have "automated" my chicken setup.
I have an automated door to their house and also the outside of their run (so they can free range in the garden). I have timed both doors to open/close when it gets light/dark

I have attached watering cups ...

...to a large 25 litre home brew bucket (£12 from Wilko, Bordon)

I've got a galvanised "grandpa"-style treadle feeder. It took the chickens a week to learn how to use it.

The treadle feeder holds about 10-14 days of food for 4 chickens.
This set up means I don't have to get up at sunrise in the summer and don't have to be around as the chickens put themselves to bed just after sunset.
They just miss out on their afternoon corn (which is a treat anyway!).
