Apologies if this has already been asked, but have the rope-swings at Radford Park been removed by the council?

There was an incident with a young child that was serious enough to be reported to the grounds men for them to remove the ropes for safety reasons.

Is this another case of the nanny state. I remember using rope swings in Radford park that were very high and we even built a rope death slide. The rec had play equipment on solid concrete not the spongy stuff they use now, the climbing frame was basically a load of scaffold poles, and the witches hat roundabout was lethal.
There needs to be an element of danger in play so the kids can learn to assess risk, it's part of growing up, yes there may be few cuts and grazes an odd broken bone, but it's all part of growing up.

Decisions to remove what has been a great source of fun for many children, and be based on historical evidence. This appears to be a lack of parental education of the small child in question.

Just wish to put this in perspective,
This is not a nanny state. The incident involved a 9yr boy with the noose around his neck his feet barely touching the ground and in some distress. His friends were egging him on When challenged they became abusive. . I agree cuts and grazes are part of growing up, but not the death of child even if accidental.
