Will these be zero hours contracts? Some places cancel zero-hours staff on the same day,, might that happen with these roles?

Although any local employment is welcome, by specifying an age range, this employer could be seen to discriminate against anyone other than a 16-17 year old.
Is age such a barrier when it comes to this job? Perhaps a person nearing retirement age would like to apply to do this work? Why does it only suit a 16-17 year old?
The Equality Act 2010 prohibits age discrimination in recruitment and employment unless the particular discriminatory treatment can be justified. Although it is not unlawful per se to include a preferential age range in a job advertisement, it is advisable for employers not to specify age limits or age ranges as these could be interpreted as an intention to discriminate.

Colin - I rather think that instead of discrimination the OP was merely pointing out that they would consider 16/17 year olds for this role despite it being in a pub where it is usual to be over 18. It does not say it is ONLY suitable for 16/17 year olds!

Or perhaps Colin the poster was just highlighting that although the vacancy is in a pub you don't need to be 18! Love the HR - PC brigade!

I'm only 15 but wondered if you have kitchen jobs at the moment. Keen to earn some money and able to work evenings and weekends.

Colin,
The ad says suitable for 16/17yr olds.
The keyword there is SUITABLE.
Under 18s have limitations on what they can do in a job, especially when it comes to alcohol.
The ad is saying 16/17yr olds CAN APPLY.
It is not discrimination. If anything it is more inclusive as some companies won't hire U18s.

Lawful or unlawful, by specifying age rage they save time for those who will not get the job anyway, and save time for all else involved.
What's the point in inviting everybody who have no chance of being accepted for the role?
