New quad bike
- John (16th Nov 2020 - 20:44:04)
Please can the young man who has recently started racing his shiny red quad bike through private fields and woodland explain how that can possibly be acceptable? Thank you

Is this in the bomb pits area? If so, we've seen him too, with a passenger on the back. Lots of damage to the tracks and paths there which is even worse recently due to the heavy rain making everything muddy. Noise pollution too.
There is a sign specifically stating that no unauthorised vehicles are permitted in the bomb pits.
If he's riding on the road at any point, he needs a full driving licence, road tax and insurance, as well as an MOT if the quad bike is old enough.

It must be alright to go where you like John. I see there's been a fire down the field as well as the unburnt bit of the pallet and other rubbish has been left there to go with all the litter around the muddy area where 3 4x4s were stuck on Sunday. It must also be alright to hang around in a large group at weekends if you are teenage like the lot that were down there and in the BOAT even though I read in the press that we were supposed to save each other and only meet one friend - just for 28 days.
Still - let's not consider taking anybody's rights away eh? That would never do

I spoke to the boy on quad and he had told me how he had been given permission from the owner off the land. They had just told them the only issue is the noise and that the land had already been churned up for a while. There is also a green lane going though the mud pits I believe. They are just having abit off fun like everyone used too atleast there not doing drugs or coursing choas is the village.

As agent for the land owner, I can assure you no permission has been granted to ride a quad bike in these fields or the woodland

T, a vehicle has to be road legal to use a green lane (byway open to all traffic.) If the law catches your friend his quad bike will be seized. If he purchased it new with paperwork it's an easy job to make it road legal then he won't have a problem. Got to be better than risking losing it.

John - if you're the agent, any chance of enforcing the "no unauthorised vehicles"? Could a locked gate or two be installed with foot access only? Or get the status of Muddy Lane changed to a footpath?

T, your friend could also receive a fine for breaching the current lockdown rules.

I for one think T is trying to blag a bad situation into a better one. We all know T the non legality of quad bikes on green lanes.

Joe - perhaps that's why he is using private land instead! There's no excuse for trespass. If these fields are abused much more, the contractor (it is not the landowner who cultivates these, just a hard-working contractor) will get fed up and give up his lease and we will see them covered in houses.

I agree with Joe. This is like something from "Kevin and Perry."
