Drone flying low over Liphook (again) - 16 Oct, 4.00pm
- Paul (16th Oct 2020 - 16:15:12)

Yet again, a drone flying low over Liphook this afternoon. Across the green, hovering over the Berg.

From what I can see, it then landed in the Berg - approximately Shepherds Way, Willow Gardens area.

Not a problem if you fly legally, but low flying over the centre is in breach of CAA regulations. You have to be located!

Did the drone operator break the law?

Hi,
Maybe an estate agent that is allowed to make video's of property for sale.

@James - I believe so. It was a low flight over a residential area, and assuming it’s launched from the Berg it could not be seen in flight by the operator. It gets flown from the Berg to the opposite side of the Square.

It has been making low passes over properties and the centre for several months now.

Both these actions are in breach of the CAA drone pilot regulations which all licensed pilots are obliged to follow for safe operation.

I have no objection to drone use within the regulations. This is being done in breach of CAA regulations.

Any drone weighing more than 250 grams must be registered with the CAA and the drone pilot must complete an online safety test, obtaining a Flyer ID and an Operator ID.

Pilots must not fly within 50 metres of people, vehicles, buildings, etc (except take-off and landing where its 30 meters). A drone must not be flown within 150 metres of a congested area or any large group of people such as a concert or sporting event.

Drones under 250 grams do not need to be registered. Anyone can fly them.

So over residential properties, the 50-meter rule applies.

Happy days.
