Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- DJ (17th Sep 2020 - 08:35:35)

We all know that bank branches are being closed up and down the country.  I work for a rival bank and have worked indirectly on branch closure programmes.  Amongst the criteria for closure is how many customers visit the branch and also how many of the bank's customers live in the vicinity of the branch under review.

Lloyd's has just launched a switching offer.  They'll pay £100 if you switch your account and (pay in £1.5k per month).  Switching is incredibly easy to do.  If you don't have a Lloyd's account and you also care about the Liphook's last bank in town, then may I suggest that now's a better time than ever to support the local community and open an account.

It's true that most customers now prefer to use digital banking.  But branches (and the staff) provide a vital service for those unable (or unwilling) to use digital services and banks do bring in people (and therefore business) into the town.

Just to be clear: I have no affiliation with lloyds.  I simply write this as a Liphook resident who doesn't want to lose the last bank in town.

Whilst I ussually try to use local facilities-
a) I don't earn that much a month
b) sadly switched from Lloyds some time ago due to poor service at this branch - I am still trying to recover money from my deceased husbands account at LLoyds - sorry to be negative.on this occasion

I applaud what you are trying to do but with more and more people doing online banking it is usually the elderly now who go to branches that may not have the income requirement. I avoid going into places at the moment because of covid.

Probably best not to have contributed then K or are you saying you would prefer another empty premises in the centre of our village? The original post is a bout doing something positive to preserve part of village life, why do some people have to make it about them!

- Maz (17th Sep 2020 - 13:54:40)

@Rolli

When a post is put up on this site any number of opinions will /can contribute.

We too moved from this branch, not this bank I might add, after a conversation with the so called young manager a few years back. She was incredibly rude, when we were trying to transfer an ISA, which was completely uncalled for.
Not to this day have we ever stepped foot in that branch, due to poor customer service at the till points, more than once.

Perhaps the staff would benefit from enhanced training, but the old saying of “you can’t polish a **** springs to mind!

They reap what they sow.

I agree with DJ we need to keep a bank in Liphook, when it closes and becomes another estate agent we only have ourselves to blame.
Use it or lose it.
And Lloyds Bank said they would not close the last bank in a town and did so in Bordon, so Liphook is not safe.

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- Gr (17th Sep 2020 - 19:50:15)

people from Haslemere Grayshot bordon liss use this branch as the only one around it is well used staff helpful bit they system clogs things up they work with what they have but their hands are tied
Never had a problem with the branch

@ Maz I don't know when this unfortunate incident occurred, but I worked in Liphook for many years and used Lloyds regularly (and for the record still do) before online banking was fashionable and in all that time I was treated courteously and politely. However I feel the need to say - and I am not directing this statement to you as I was not present when the manager was rude to you so do not know the circumstances - that I have witnessed in the past and particularly in recent times, how rude the public are to frontline workers. Usually there are two sides to a story.

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- Maz (18th Sep 2020 - 14:27:29)

@Penny

how about the CUSTOMER is always right.....?!!

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- Penny Williamson (18th Sep 2020 - 16:26:50)

That depends on how the customer behaves. There is no excuse ever for rudeness or agression and once again I emphasise that this is not directed at you. I have seen only too often how some people behave and speak to staff on the frontline particularly during the lockdown when frontline staff have put their lives at risk to serve the public. I am sorry that you had a bad experience but I can only repeat that my experience with the staff at Lloyds over many, many years has been excellent.

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- rolli (18th Sep 2020 - 16:37:32)

@ Maz, the customer is not always right, in fact is often an aggressive arrogant know all with an over developed sense of self importance. Everyday you see obnoxious individuals in shops, cafes and pubs acting appallingly to the staff with that same outdated attitude of the customer is always right, complete tosh!

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- gr (18th Sep 2020 - 16:47:48)

after working many years in customer service roll the customer is NOT always right and a lot of the time down right rude to staff

NOt saying anyone in here is rude but it does happen and at the end of a long day sometimes you have just had enough of the way people speak to you and a fuse blows

the easy way is speak to people how you would wish to be spoken too and treat others how you wish to be treated.

and before I forget

Merry Christmas

@Rolli

thought that may tweak your nose......:)

&

@Penny

I've worked all over the world, including the far east, states etc etc but managed to avoid working in Liphook...- .pleasant enough to live, but thats it,can't imagine that broadens the outlook too well.
But if thats what suits etc

Oh Maz, you sound like a charmer! Thank god for online shopping so retailers don’t have to tolerate attitudes like yours

"I've worked all over the world, including the far east, states etc etc but managed to avoid working in Liphook"

That's probably due to your confrontational attitude, people are glad to see you move on. Keep going you could do another circuit.
As Ian says a right charmer.

Glad to still have Lloyds in the village and we should do all we can to keep it.

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- D (18th Sep 2020 - 21:58:39)

I think we should all remember that a terrible thing happened on these premises three years ago which later led to tragic consequences. I feel we should have great respect for the staff of Lloyd's Bank.

Personally I've never been so unemployable that I've had to travel to the U.S. or the Middle East for work. Still, what suits.....

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- Diane (18th Sep 2020 - 23:28:04)

we have been customers of Lloyds Bank Liphook for over 50 years and have seen many staff come and go and we have never ever had any thing but friendly and good service from all of them beginning with Mr Sainsbury who was everything anyone could require in a manager.

Made me laugh D ! Maybe working and living in this country and paying tax again, makes a person cranky!

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- Penny Williamson (19th Sep 2020 - 09:23:30)

@ Maz Your point being? I had to read your post a couple of times and you seem to be saying that your have worked all over the world, but have avoided working in Liphook. Is that because of all rude customers? Seriously though, it is so easy for a company/person to lose a good reputation, on many occasions unjustifiably, even more so now, as this can be so easily achieved from behind a keyboard.

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- Maz (19th Sep 2020 - 09:38:47)

Haven’t chuckled so much for months.
What a parochial bunch you are,
This makes you look so small minded @D,Rolli ,Penny et al.

Liphook suits you .
& you get what you deserve......little /nothing in the way of resources.

Green eyes springs to mind ...bet you get a nose bleed going over the county border ha ha.

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- D (19th Sep 2020 - 11:58:10)

Maz, I'm sorry you feel that an armed robbery where an innocent bystander was shot, resulting in his death earlier this year is something to be sneered at. Shame.

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- Penny Williamson (19th Sep 2020 - 12:29:46)

As so often happens on this site when someone loses an argument or gets criticized they turn nasty - such a shame. I am so glad other posters who have good service from Lloyds are posting on this Thread.

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- Joe (19th Sep 2020 - 14:29:17)

Maz I am sure your tax free earnings beckon. Instead of trashing Liphook perhaps take a closer look at the countries you mention - human rights issues and other shocking scandals in both. Enjoy not paying tax.

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- D (19th Sep 2020 - 15:57:04)

I take Maz with a pinch if salt. If she's the wonderful high flier whom the U.S. or Far East can't possibly manage without she would be putting her money in something a bit more ambitious than an isa. Even I know ISA's are the lower rate paying safer end of the market. But, what does a green eyed small minded person like me know about finance? I must declare an interest here because I do have green eyes.

Re: Lloyds Bank - Last bank in town
- Joe (19th Sep 2020 - 16:22:01)

Offshore Bonds would suit- who knows though D, Maz could be slang for a mans' name?
