Veterinary service during lock-down
- Phill (25th Mar 2020 - 19:18:59)

Dear all,
In the current circumstances, all practices are (or should be) only offering a basic service to treat urgent and emergency cases ie animals that are in pain or seriously ill. This is to comply with government instructions, soon to be law, RCVS recommendations and simple common sense.

At Small World Vet Centre, we are providing this service with a minimum of staff in order to keep them safe at home and because there is not enough work for all of them. Please look at out Facebook page or this website for updates on our service and the protocols we have in place.

Clearly, we are avoiding contact with each other and our clients and so even simple jobs take longer. We are also receiving a lot of phone calls, so please be patient if your call isn't answered immediately (we have no receptionists).

Some of those calls are to request treatment for non-urgent conditions. For many of these we can now offer a video consultation after which we may be able to dispense medication if needed.

However, a few people are being insistent (even rather 'forthright') that their pet MUST have their routine vaccination. With regret, we CANNOT see pets for this reason. It is not allowed under the new rules and I will not put my staff at risk for something that can safely wait for a couple of weeks or, in some cases, longer. We are happy to advise owners if they have concerns about this but there are no exceptions. If one of us becomes ill, the whole practice will close indefinitely which is something we are working hard to avoid.

Thank you for your support- we wish you all good health and look forward to seeing you again when this is all over.
Phill
