How many ill with virus symptoms in Liphook?
- Heather L (24th Mar 2020 - 21:03:23)

Anyone else had symptoms? My daughter full blown Covid symptoms for 4 days. Directly as she can back from uni at Portsmouth, and none of us have left the house so not linked to Liphook.

Just wondering how many cases we might have.

I think only those patients who are admitted to hospital with it are registered as having it. Sometimes it presents as a mild form, and I possibly may have had it last month, as I had a nasty chest infection with a dry cough. It lasted about 2 weeks nothing similar to what I have experienced before. It may of course not have been. The government estimate that 80 percent of the population may get it, and 20 percent of those cases will be serious.

As of Sunday 22/03/20 there were 107 cases in Hampshire.
The highest number in any county outside of London.
There are no specific numbers for Liphook available.

Please look after each other and please think of our vulnerable neighbours if you have to go food shopping.

Community spirit and good deeds will get us through this.....

Keep everyone safe. STAY HOME.

Update re Covid 19 25/03/20.
There are now 207 recorded cases in Hampshire.
Still the highest number of cases outside London.

We will get through this if we ALL stick to the new rules.

Keep safe everyone.
Stay home and keep washing you hands.

You would do better to phone NHS 111 if your daughter has symptoms. Posts like this are only going to achieve unnecessary worry and there is enough of that around already.

Apparently the vast majority of cases in Hampshire are in the Portsmouth and Southampton urban areas. Although I consider that I live in Liphook I’m actually in West Sussex which has very few cases. My daughter also is in the area but in Surrey so I do not think locally we should get too stressed at the Hampshire statistics. However locally a lot of people have “bugs” and there is just no way of knowing if it is ‘the flu” a bad cold or corona so why take the risk, stay safe, but don’t panic!

We are never going to know how many people have the virus in the whole country as it is not a notifiable disease. If figures were published for each village and town and city it might focus the minds of the people who lived there to behave responsibly.

You can report here, even as healthy, to help the medical tracking that will help prevention.

Hello Heather,
hope all your family are OK.
I think it is a very good question - we think we may have had it here - nothing serious for us - but definitely something 'different'. We are keeping away from everyone. We, like many others, may never know if we have had it. I really hope they get tests sorted.

I'm a blood donor and want to give blood as donors who have had the virus and recovered are reportedly what they want.

Nothing scaremongering about your question. I see lots of elderly people are behaving like it won't affect them - e.g. going to the supermarket every day to get their paper. Not sensible behaviour IMHO.

It is misleading to rely on those figures. Only those people who have presented at hospital are getting tested for it. People with milder symptoms may not be recorded. Prince Charles now has it.

Beware of statistics. Hampshire may have the highest number of sufferers, but could that be because it's one of the biggest counties (by population)?

Only West Yorkshire and the major conurbations are larger.

Rural and semi-rural areas in Hampshire are not COVID hotspots. No point in spreading either complacency or panic.
