There was an incident friday night a young chap got a bad wound when he was hit in the side of the face with a broken bottle. The place is getting very rough and getting a bad reputation!

- Simon (31st Dec 2019 - 10:05:32)

Sounds fairly standard for the Anchor.

Re: Anchor liphook
- Rölli (31st Dec 2019 - 12:30:43)

Couldn't even be bothered to clean up the broken glass and puke. The place is a disgrace!

GK have a face book page send them a messege

Re: Anchor liphook
- Mr George Adair (31st Dec 2019 - 16:14:19)

GR, "Speak to the manager you say, since he took over from Richard and Sabrina the place has spiralled into the gutter, How many people do you think have asked to speak to him and yet he hides behind his staff instructing them to deal with situations regarding food, trouble etc! I have yet to see him front of house serve a customer let alone converse with them just to let people know who he is ! Mr Invisible is his name should you need to speak to him, I got barred for voicing my opinion to him in person on carol singing night, never used any offensive language and his answer was to turn and walk away with his tail between his legs ! The Carol singing night was shambolic, I thought the singers were supposed to get a hot mince pie and glass of mulled wine upon arrival ! they got this halfway through the service ! Great organisation and his excuse was for that, Sainsburys did'nt deliver the pies and wine ! I mean it wasn't like he had forgot the most important event of the year for the pub ! So to talk to him or air your views about any concerns I sorry to say will fall on deaf ears ! He is an embarrassment for the mark of Green King, In 40 years of drinking in this pub have I ever seen it in such a disgusting state, No locks on the gents cubicles, (Children have to go in there !) I could go on and the list would be never ending, Sad that he has destroyed a village con simply because he is Bone Idle Lazy man.

Don’t waste your money
Wouldn’t touch the food from their kitchens

Re: Anchor liphook
- Jenny (1st Jan 2020 - 01:23:10)

I have to agree that The Anchor is pretty grim. The ladies' loo smelled strongly of vomit when I went in there. Most unpleasant.

Re: Anchor liphook
- Adrian (1st Jan 2020 - 12:38:42)

Gents loos are usually okay . The urine smell masks the vomit 🤮

Re: Anchor liphook
- Boris (1st Jan 2020 - 12:53:09)

Had steak and ail pie and next day passing blood.
Wife had fish and chips and two days running tummy.
Must have been extras on the menue!!!!

Re: Anchor liphook
- PeterW (6th Jan 2020 - 19:11:24)

O wow!
Just read George's thread. As far as I was aware after conversations with the Royal Anchor and the Manager, Greene King were supplying the mince pies and mulled wine. During a check on the previous wednesday/thursday I was assured that the mince pies were in the kitchen ready to go and the urns for warming the mulled wine had been found and cleaned and ready to go. Also a nice man in a red suit was available.
On the day not a lot turned up.
However due to all the good will and company we managed to get through the night with not to many hiccups.
Look forward to seeing GR next year.

Cheers

Just like to add to the comments about the Anchor.
Today my wife and three friends went to the Anchor at lunch time.
They all said that the place was very much cleaner and the food was very good.
No complaints at all.
Lets hope they have turned the corner for 2020.

Re: Anchor liphook
- Rölli (14th Jan 2020 - 09:18:29)

contacted Greene King a week ago, still no response or even an acknowledgment. They must be overwhelmed by so many complaints they cannot cope

Re: Anchor liphook
- paul (14th Jan 2020 - 12:27:09)

Hi,
Clearly these poor standards are common with the management from the very top to down of Green King.
Low quality recruitment of staff, and training required.
Sadly a chain pub of Hungry Horse is not recommended.
Online reviews of these establishments, around the country show low results.

Only hope for the Royal Anchor going forward, is the pub is sold to people who are professional, and care about their customers.

Re: Anchor liphook
- Jess (15th Jan 2020 - 08:58:10)

Typical.. I went to change my baby in the baby changer at anchor before Xmas and the Changer itself was covered in a sprinkling of baccy & weed. Disgusting.

Re: Anchor liphook
- Mark (15th Jan 2020 - 10:12:18)

The only way things will change at the Anchor is if you let them know about it.

Contact email is: guestrelations@greeneking.co.uk

Re: Anchor liphook
- paul (17th Jan 2020 - 11:58:30)

Hi,
Thank you Mark for the email link to Green King.

I have had a phone call response from their management, after an email sent outlining complaints about the Royal Anchor.

The information received is Greene King management is aware of problems, and will be to visiting the pub weekly. They will inspect, and increase standards at establishment.
Also support staff will be going in to assist for the near future.
The Manager will be spoken to about his behaviour, and towards customers. He is to train staff to Greene King standards required.

Hopefully this action will be good to visit the pub for all local residents.

Re: Anchor liphook
- A.Nonny (28th Jan 2020 - 10:43:20)

Having read all the replies about the Anchor, I wonder why Health and Safety, or whoever is the ombudsman for restaurants, has not been along to assess the place and immediately condemn it as unfit for public use. Would there ever be any hope of the Anchor improving beyond recognition, or is Liphook destined to keep this appalling excuse for a venue open?!!

Re: Anchor liphook
- Alan (28th Jan 2020 - 10:47:20)

Well it got 5 star rating in May 2018, must have been a good day.

Re: Anchor liphook
- Ian (28th Jan 2020 - 20:08:35)

Just look at the 5 star ratings, nearly all fake! Mostly laughable

Re: Anchor liphook
- John (28th Jan 2020 - 21:22:23)

Elements of fake on both sides, example of the pub doing it but also well known examples of patrons whom had a skin full or didn’t like something and or where asked to leave coming in here and kicking up a negative stir naming people and repeating it from various accounts.

Sad fakerey all over the ship

Re: Anchor liphook
- John (22nd Feb 2020 - 20:15:34)

Having defended the place in the past I visited a few days ago and my daughter has been very ill with food poisoning since, she had the grilled chicken baguette thing. She commented it tasted odd as she has had it before.

And before you jump down my throat saying I should have taken it up with MGMT privately, it’s pretty clear from other posts it won’t make any difference, and am not seeking a freebie apology.

Never again !

Re: Anchor liphook
- George (24th Feb 2020 - 13:12:23)

Was offered a free bag of peanuts by the staff if I posted a 5 star trip adviser review. All I had was a pint but they wanted me to do a glowing review of the food and praise the staff member by name.

Re: Anchor liphook
- Jess (26th Feb 2020 - 11:20:16)

Wouldn’t even bother contacting Green King.,

Just before Xmas I went for a meal with family and my 6 month old baby.

Baby changer was covered in weed and tobacco!!

I emailed the complaints and the reply I got was ..

‘We have visited and investigated this complaint and I can confirm the cleanliness standard of the royal anchor is very high...’

As we all know it’s a sh*thole! I used to work there and it’s just got worse and worse over the years. And the fact the actual franchise company doesn’t seem to care is even worse!

Sorry for the rant but as a mother I am disgusted and raging about the baby changer!

Re: Anchor liphook
- Ian (26th Feb 2020 - 19:45:55)

LOL, you got to look at today’s TripAdvisor review, obviously a review written by the manager himself or family member/friend. Shockingly (amusingly!) obvious

Re: Anchor liphook
- MT (26th Feb 2020 - 20:29:54)

Even my dog makes a dash across the zebra crossing opposite this wonderful, amazing establishment.
He's a Lab and will eat Almost! Anything!

The reviews are great.
Haven't been there for years but feel I know all the staff.
LOL.
