Cavity Wall Knockers
- Local Resident (4th Nov 2019 - 14:32:47)
Just had a knock on my door on the Headly Road from someone peddling cavity wall insulation. He had a piece of paper on a clipboard with an EHDC logo prominently displayed. He is obviously, categorically nothing to do with EHDC, who would never sanction door to door selling. Assuming I'm right, surely showing me that logo is....fraud? Misrepresentation? I always think about the next door he knocks on, which will be opened by a more vulnerable person than me. Nothing I can do, I suppose.

Don't part with any money up front - or allow yourself to be pressurised in to buying anything. Ask yourself was I looking to buy this? - before someone suggested I needed it!

I had one of these some months ago, I was very sceptical, but it is real! EHDC subsidise the cavity wall insulation I had my 5 bed house done for free. The company is called Mark I think, and they made a good job, surveyed came and installed and cemented the holes again.

I had a similar call yesterday from a man claiming to be carrying out a survey on behalf of the government. He did not say what tier of government. He was claiming to be from a company called "Right".
The survey was of any previously installed insulation that had received a government grant.
I told him 'No Thank You'. He was still shouting at me when I closed my front door.

We had one recently and it was genuine. Very professional and the walls were insulated about 3 weeks after the initial survey. EHDC is paying for the work to be done if you qualify for it (in our case we got it done for free because we had children younger than 16 living here). But as with anything do your homework on the company to make sure it's legit and you don't have to sign up there and then if you need time to think; take some contact details.
Thanks
Neil

I, like everyone else, was exceedingly sceptical when I was cold called upon this week.
I have spent a considerable amount of time today talking to the Environmental Department at EHDC & researching.
It would appear that this is a genuine offer, free to anyone who is classed as 'vulnerable' - 60 or over, ill health etc..
They also do loft insulation. Both cavity wall & loft insulation are free to those who qualify.
So, should anyone be in doubt, contact the relevant authority to discuss. I, for one, feel a whole lot better for doing so.

For sure EHDC will provide some grant aid for this sort of work. But my point was that EHDC would not for one millisecond sanction third parties to knock on doors, and use the EHDC logo to try and gain admission. I was pretty shocked, tbh.
