- Liphook Carnival Committee (25th Oct 2019 - 22:58:01)

We are holding a village litter pick following the carnival on Sunday 27th, kicking off at 7.30am from The Anchor pub.

We have gloves, hi-vis and litter pickers.

All welcome to join us!

What if we arrive later in the morning? Any call for late arrivals? Until what time and where?

- D (26th Oct 2019 - 12:11:08)

There's another reason to knock it on the head.

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- Life time resident (26th Oct 2019 - 13:00:49)

D why don’t you go and live somewhere else if you are so against Liphook.

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- Grant (26th Oct 2019 - 13:43:11)

D, you little key board warrior you.............

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- Dave (26th Oct 2019 - 13:53:48)

I just want to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who work so hard to put this event on for the local community, they give up their free time to work hard throughout the year to fundraise for it and to keep the event going after all these years. Despite the weather we will be sure to turn out and enjoy the parade ! Thank you to all involved and those on the floats!

- Elizabeth (26th Oct 2019 - 14:16:27)

Just because people are planning a litter pick, doesn't mean you have to drop/abandon your litter. You could still take it home with you and do your bit to keep Liphook clean and tidy.

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- Resident (26th Oct 2019 - 14:20:16)

D - stop your critical moaning just to try and spoil the enjoyment of others!! At least the committee arrange litter picking after an event to make sure that Liphook remains clean and tidy!!

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- D (26th Oct 2019 - 18:37:17)

Please forgive me for DARING to speak against Liphook carnival, heresy indeed. I will beat myself till I bleed and beg the vicar's forgiveness in the morning. Compared to what it used to be Liphook Carnival is now like something out of Little Britain. Lifetime Resident, if you read my post a bit more carefully (or you could get someone to read it to you) you will see I am criticising Liphook Carnival, not Liphook which has been my home for over fifty years. How long have you lived here?

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- Ann (26th Oct 2019 - 19:26:22)

D, why don’t you join the committee and help out. You definitely need to get a life.

- AA (26th Oct 2019 - 20:31:02)

Bit early for me tomorrow (although thanks to the clocks my babies may get me up at 5..!) But are there any regular litter picks like this that I could get my oldest involved with? Thanks :)

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick

Ann, you could say that about anyone who uses websites like this, don't you think? I'm merely questioning the practicalities of closing Liphook's roads for three hours. It wouldn't have been a problem when the carnival first started before the motorcar was commonplace but these days? We are a 24 hour society, travelling to and from work; having goods delivered; care workers visiting patients; late hospital appointments; Macmillan nurses visiting cancer patients, do not stop for three hours just because Liphook carnival is on. These road closures inconvenience many people and it would be wise to consider the day when permission to close the centre of Liphook is refused. Maybe a plan B should be considered for this eventuality, we can't take it for granted permission will always be given. I would love to get a life, cancer has put paid to that.

Lifetime Resident, I've looked through the eight threads I've took part in prior to the two pertaining to the carnival (hardly "many subjects", especially when four of them are about the same thing) and can find none of me either complaining about or criticising Liphook. If you can quote an example to the contrary, then please do so or withdraw your comment. Thank you.

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- D (29th Oct 2019 - 22:37:16)

Well, it's been a few days now and still no response from Lifetime Resident. Or his friends Grant, Resident and Ann. Given how eager they were to stifle my opinions at the weekend with their derogatory comments I'm disappointed that non of them want to discuss my concerns, but not surprised. Maybe they all drank too much "Carnival Spirit".

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- A different D (29th Oct 2019 - 23:10:00)

My 10 year old son attended the litter pick and helped clean up the village he has some pride in living in, yes, he was disgusted that people drop so much litter, but at least he helped out, something that the high and mighty “D” couldn’t manage!?

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- D (30th Oct 2019 - 06:48:18)

How public spirited of you to allow your ten year old son to spend a day picking up other people's litter who are too ignorant to either put it in a bin or take it home. The point of my comments is the inconvenience the carnival road closures cause to some residents who rely on carers etc but never mind. They are a small minority who should "get a life" as Ann says.

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- A different D (30th Oct 2019 - 08:52:13)

Couldn’t agree more, litter drives me up the wall...almost as much as people who are:
Miserable.
Self centred.
Morose.
Negative.
And who hijack forums with comments not helpful to the original post.
Thankfully that hasn’t happened on this post, has it D?

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- Rob (30th Oct 2019 - 11:50:21)

@ D
I can quite understand your frustration, I live on longmoor Road and am unable to move from mid afternoon till late evening.
However it is only one afternoon of the year that we all know occurs. Perhaps with this in mind you could make alternative arrangements for this one afternoon.
I have to say part of the problem is the ridiculous road layout at the centre of the "village" where all roads lead to and therefore all vehicles have to travel both ways through the "Square". We desperately need a reworking of the road layout.

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- GR (30th Oct 2019 - 12:32:03)

Maybe we should ask estate agent to put a note on all properties that once a year for 3-4 hours there is a carnival and you will need to change your routine for that short time as the roads are closed.

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- Jen (30th Oct 2019 - 12:52:58)

Rob, unfortunately all the possible places where a relief road could have been put have been developed for housing, which of the course has made the traffic problems in the Square much worse!

Re: Liphook Carnival Litter Pick
- D (31st Oct 2019 - 13:21:50)

A Different D, I'm sorry you feel that way but I really don't think you can judge a person by a few written words, which is why I've always steered clear of websites like this in the past. It's not a genuine conversation, it's very false, and social media certainly seems to bring out the worst in people. I urge you to read my last post to Ann. My objections to the road closures are genuine, I am not being the things you list in your post. Road closures of an hour to let the procession go through wouldn't be so bad but it's getting longer and longer, will be a whole day soon. However I realise my concerns aren't taken seriously on this website.
