NEW 16-17 railcard
- Debbie (6th Aug 2019 - 10:15:14)

If anyone has a 16 or 17 year old a new 16-17 railcard is being released at the beginning of September. This new card gives 16-17 year olds 50% off train fares at all times. It's valid until their 18th birthday.

Keep an eye on the various websites:

Don't be put off by birthdays - wait until the rules come out officially.

Just thought I would let you all know. I have just popped up to our Liphook railway office and the very helpful lady behind the desk informed me of the following.

The new 16-17 railcard, need to have a season ticket proof of ID card with it as well (it doesn't tell you this when you buy the railcard & the ticket office was only told this via email, today) When you go to purchase, the travel card to school/college, they will need to take a passport photo size picture to get the ticket ID card.

Hope this is helpful

Hi Jaqui,
I bought my daughters online via the website. I took a photo of her on my phone and uploaded that and used it. I put in her passport number and paid my £30, I then downloaded the app they told me to on to her phone. They then sent me a code which I popped into the app and it downloaded a digital copy of the card to her phone. It only took 5 minutes and she won't lose the card because its on her phone.

Hi Debbie, we have done exactly the same as you, and have it download to a phone. But according to the railway lady they still need the ID card!

Jaqui if you open the app and click on view 16-17 saver the card pops up with the photo you used and to the left is a bit that says "Season ticket valid until" and my daughters says Jan 2021.Maybe that's the id bit they need for a travel/season ticket.

Just had another thought Jaqui! If you're going to buy a weekly/monthly/season ticket I found that when my eldest daughter went to college in Godalming it worked out cheaper to buy her tickets daily because a couple of days a week her lessons started later so I could buy her an off peak ticket. I'm waiting for my youngest daughter to get her timetable so I can work out which is the cheapest way to do it!
