Great to see double Loco flying through Liphook Station this morning and the Kids Loved it ! Ah - the smell and the sheer nostalgia of it all....Big smiles all round, Just fabulous!

I was delighted and relieved to see that Network Rail (or Colas etc) have finally responded to my classification of the pedestrian bridge as unsafe and dilapidated and should be condemned as it is 'unfit for purpose'.

They have reinforced the worst but not all sections of angle steel that were literally rusted to nothing, along with new Galvanised Nut and Bolts. Some? steps have been replaced with very solid hardwood sections and angle supports. However the strengthener ties underneath the steps have completely failed and the main supporting corner sections carrying the weight of the bridge during heavy footfall are still the point where the bridge will fail if it does collapse under heavy usage.

For the cost of the maintenance inspection programme along with the scaffolding and the contracts fees provided over the past 10-15 years, this bridge could have been re-fabricated three times. False economy and an accident or worse, tragedy, waiting to happen.

I did my best! Paul

Google Steam Dreams Rail. They do trips occasionally with pick up points in Guildford and Petersfield so presumably passing through Liphook!
