SE Water offer, read the small print
- jaybee (20th Jun 2019 - 13:19:06)

I have today received an offer from South East Water for insurance to protect water pipes at my home.

The cost is just 75p per month (£9 for the year.) If I wish to renew after the first year the cost will be £10 per month £120 per year

READ THE SMALL PRINT

I took out one of these introductory offers for 50p a month which covered plumbing. We had a leak in the loft during the year and I have to say I was impressed with how quick and efficient they were. Just make sure you cancel when the year is up!

To be fair, it is part of the main letter, not in the small print. It says Initial Montly Price (big clue!) 75p then in the last paragraph, not the small print ‘if you choose to renew you can still enjoy ... for just £10 a month’. All pretty obvious and not as dubious as your statement made it sound.

It's a bit of a scam though really. This is normally covered in your house insurance too. Check before setting it up or you're insuring the same thing twice...

Plumbing repairs are not covered under house insurance. You may be covered for damage as a result of a leak which is not the same thing.
