Idiots on the roundabouts
- Sidge (14th May 2019 - 08:46:34)

Oh the joy of driving through Liphook centre at 8.15, trying to get from Portsmouth Road to Haslemere Road, the roundabout was blocked constantly by mummies ferrying their precious Bohunt babies and being so self obsessed they have clearly forgotten how to use a roundabout ie not blocking it.... one particular gem was having a good old laugh.
Here are a couple of suggestions
1. make the kid walk, I am a Bohunt parent too, and my children walk to and from school, if you live too far away, perhaps the ickle darlings could walk part of the way and reduce the chaos in the centre
2. If you must drive remember not to block the roundabout it will add seconds to your journey, but don't stop on a roundabout blocking other cars.

Just to add to the above thread why don`t drivers use their indicators - it`s so annoying!

It's not actually illegal to "block" a roundabout unless it has yellow hatchings on it.
You give way to traffic ON the roundabout, not those waiting to join it.
Perhaps you shouldn't be travelling through the village at 8.15 adding to the traffic or should be more patient, it only adds a minute to your journey after all?

I'm surprised they were only blocking the roundabouts. Other favourites include indicating one way and going another and completely ignoring the notion of giving way to people on the right.

I think it's about time pupils from places with their own schools were stopped from going to Liphook schools. Would cut down traffic not to mention the arrogant bus drivers.

What's wrong with schools in Haslemere, Petersfield and Bordon (ok maybe that one's obvious) anyway?

Hey 'not surprised' why don't we just ban all outsiders from our village. Like Europe, "we don't need them"!!

"D"
Highway code says give way to traffic already on the roundabout OR approaching from the right.
Besides which its just inconsiderate.

Correct me if im wrong doesnt the highway code also say only go onto a roundabout only if your exit is clear

Re: Idiots on the roundabouts
- AA (14th May 2019 - 18:21:01)

The highway code is all very well but when you have most of the other people at the roundabout not abiding by the rules then you find that if YOU do you'll be there a long time. It doesn't necessarily take a few seconds longer it takes a lot longer when others are piling onto the roundabout any old how! That roundabout is a total nightmare when you come from certain directions.

Also.......(getting on the band-wagon) why do people signal right when going straight over the roundabout by the Anchor pub? Always, find that mighty frustrating 🤪

- Circle (15th May 2019 - 05:12:21)

PAuletta,
No strairght-across on any of Liphooks' centre roundabouts, all require clear and advance indication. I know, it's hard work driving...

Re: Idiots on the roundabouts
- Caroline (15th May 2019 - 09:28:11)

Roundabouts that only have two exits need a clear indication of which one is being aimed for. Otherwise those waiting to enter the roundabout don't know if they can move or not.

Re: Idiots on the roundabouts
- Pete (15th May 2019 - 10:30:28)

Its quite simple, the two roundabouts that only have two exits require indicating the one that has three exits (Madaban corner) only requires indicating if taking the first or third exit. To indicate when going straight over at this one is as dangerous as not indicating at all. If people indicated correctly their intended exit, traffic flow would be much improved. For roundabouts to work efficiently drivers must be able to anticipate where other road users are going.

Issue would be eased at school times if Zebra crossing was replaced with a Pelican crossing

An interesting sighting early this morning of a stationery grey van three quarters of the way across the roundabout from the London Road heading through the village.

The driver was drinking from a large bottle of fizzy orange, does this indicate that the site is to become a picnicking area?

Sidge,

Are you sure your're not the idiot on the round about and everybody else is using it correctly?

@Not Surprised

I'm curious to know why you think Mill Chase Academy isn't a good school. Yes, it has its issues, but so does Bohunt and TPS.

Re: Idiots on the roundabouts
- JR (15th May 2019 - 19:56:20)

Perhaps if all of the drivers who are in this traffic left their mobile phones alone and concentrated on driving their children to school, they might be able to navigate through the village more safely. Alternatively the children could walk as they do still have legs. Possibly another thread there though.

The Liphook roundabouts are a thing of wonder and it’s incredible that there haven’t been more accidents on them.

How about making a road through where the Anchor garage is being knocked down......bypass the roundabout completely

Hmm could be interesting when the 60 Liphook folk are sitting watching a film in the new 60 seater cinema 🙄
