Asking for money
- Carole (9th Mar 2019 - 14:43:17)
Husband was asked for money this morning by man in 20,s in a car, a Toyota silver. This was opposite PRC. He claimed to have wife in hospital and needed money for fuel. He didn’t get any from my husband who refused to report it to police.
Beware.

If there is no alleged "hate crime" to it: The police are unequipped thus uninterested. It's wolf eats wolf days back thanks to political correctness.
Yes, Lips is back!

Should have got the violin out for that old sob story. Toss him a banana.

This request would appear to be remarkably similar to a demand I had when a dishevelled character knocked at my door late one night.
On that occasion it was to pay for petrol to visit his sick father in hospital.
I had a strong suspicion that the money might form part of a transaction later that night in the lay-by next to Radford Bridge.

About 4 years ago there was a scam in the Bagshot area where drivers were being flagged down by people saying they needed money for fuel. It was reported in the press. Looks like the same thing here.

I believe this also occurred a couple of weeks ago in Sainsburys car park. A lady was approached as she returned to her car and he opened her door. Similar story about wife being pregnant and needing to get to hospital, gave him £10 to get rid of him

One possible answer to this scam "oh I sympathise with you it sounds awful, maybe the police would have some ideas on how to help you, would you like me to call them for you?"
Or else "just fill up and explain it to the petrol pump attendant, I'm sure they'll sympathise with you and not have heard this story a million times before"

Re: Asking for money
- Confused (10th Mar 2019 - 19:37:35)
Seems like the same guy who approached me at beginning of December about which I posted on here "A scam".
Since then I have found out that he had been asking his neighbours for money and he had also been "carol singing" for which my elderly parents did give him money. They got a bit fed up when he came back again a few days later asking for money for bus fare to go to a locksmith because he had locked himself out. Plus suggesting there was a problem with the water and they should go and check it was working.
Please do warn your elderly friends and relatives that not everyone is as they seem.

If this happens to me, and it’s safe to do so (daylight hours and other people about) I’d get my phone out to take a photo of the driver and the car. I expect they’d drive off pretty pronto. I’m not suggesting anyone else tries this, just saying what I’d do.

No need really Mick. Fairly sure we know where he lives and his car is parked there. He hasn't been rude or aggressive, so far as I am aware, just untruthful and targeting vulnerable people. I doubt the police will do anything and believe an off duty police officer reported him before Christmas when he approached her for money one night.
