Couch to 5K Running Group
- Daniel l Allaway (16th Jan 2019 - 12:52:53)

Couch to 5k Group Starting in February

Have your New year’s resolutions failed already and its only the start of 2019, fear not all is not lost - do you want to lose weight - do you want to improve your fitness but don't know where to start?

Having run 5 successful Couch to 5k programs in the last two years, I will be running another program in Liphook starting on February 18th, meeting on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm.

This group will get you from not running at all to running a 5k in 11 weeks.
The group will start with run and walk rests over the first few weeks, building up over the 11 weeks to complete a 5k.

I am a qualified UK Athletics running coach who is insured and has the relevant licence to coach.

Only 15 places available.

For more information:

Please contact Daniel at couchto5k@hotmail.com

I hope you have found a proper training area and won't be annoying the residents on the berg again?

Re: Couch to 5K Running Group
- liz (16th Jan 2019 - 14:39:44)

Oh for heavens sake how can a few runners be so annoying? Obviously not a group of zealots that will knock you over as 'Couch to 5k' implies they are like me, ahem, not very fit - and should be encouraged!

Re: Couch to 5K Running Group
- Stevie Mac (16th Jan 2019 - 15:12:25)

In what way could runners be annoying? As long as they stick to public pavements they are allowed to run along them. Or does 'the Berg' have access only rights and only allow residents into the area!!?

Re: Couch to 5K Running Group
- Wendy (16th Jan 2019 - 15:49:16)

Is there an age limit for this running please?

Re: Couch to 5K Running Group
- Rölli (16th Jan 2019 - 15:53:34)

I would be intrigued how runners can annoy? Cyclists yes, they are a scourge of modern times but runners????

I actually think the Berg is an ideal venue, there is a natural circuit, cars tend to park on driveways rather than on the streets (other than those pesky commuters) so sight lines for runners crossing the road are generally not obscured.

Re: Couch to 5K Running Group
- One Berg resident (16th Jan 2019 - 16:20:46)

I am a Berg resident and I have done Daniel’s couch to 5k course. It was brilliant! I think we should be encouraging people to get fit and also to get involved in community events. I don’t see how the well-intentioned runners are causing anyone any harm so long as they are being safe. It is a public road after all. And it’s an ideal place to get new runners going. In my experience, Daniel is very safety conscious, encouraging runners to wear high-vis and head torches etc when it’s dark. Good luck to all of Daniel’s new runners! I will be cheering you around!

- Another resident (16th Jan 2019 - 17:05:45)

I would have thought somewhere for the community like the recreation ground would be better suited. I have seen groups of runners on the road with cars waiting for them to move out of the way.

Another Resident.
I think it is more a case of motorists were being polite and allowing us to cross, rather than waiting for us to get out of the way. Something we find happens most of the time when running.

Ann, shame on you for your small-minded attitude. I've been running round the Berg on and off for several years and I live on it too.

It's a fabulous, safe running circuit for all abilities. We ought to encourage this activity, not vilify it.

Go for it Daniel, and good luck to you and your new recruits.

Oh wow these comments are why I don't often look at talkback! I have this group close to my house, so yes it can be a bit irritating however am thankful they aren't a bunch of drunks!

- Berg2 (16th Jan 2019 - 20:02:18)

Well done Daniel. You are helping people get fit. The Berg is a good location. If other residents do not like it they should stay on their couch and watch TV. Happy for you all to run past my home.

- helen (16th Jan 2019 - 22:35:22)

The Berg is a public area there are no private roads or private pavements, the council cut the grassed communal areas so why do the residents lay claim to it being so private. It is a housing estate Ann.

I’ve heard really good things about this running group. Are there still spaces available?

Hi this group sounds fab

I have just started up couch to 5 k run on my phone I'm on the first week and second run . I'm really enjoying it :)
I just run / walk anywhere around here. The app is really good and has the BBC presenters as voices and I think you can have music on there too but not sure one of my friends had told me about it a few months ago and just started giving it ago by myself .
I be on the third walk / run this week sometime then I be on my second week that's if I keep it up :)

Enjoy everyone such a good challenge

C25K group runs are a brilliant way to 1, introduce yourself to running 2, get fitter 3, meet new people 4, take up anew interest.

I’m a personal trainer and I hear of so many people try the app, thinking it’s great at first, but not carrying it on and seeing it through to the end. The programme does get tough and doing it with like people and a coach outweighs any app.

I wish the running course well. If anyone is in 2 minds, give it a go. I’m sure it will not disappoint.

(BTW I don’t know Daniel at all but have seen it advertised on here over the last few years)

- Deb (23rd Jan 2019 - 22:48:50)

Hi I'm really enjoying it and will keep on enjoying using the app everyone is different and I haven't gone into it with my eyes closed . I will see it through. And I alternate the times not the days but the times when it suits me better :)
The app is a wonderful piece of technology and glad I had heard about it nothing beats doing it in your own time on a night or during day instead of having to go when scheduled to go with a group but Yes everyone is different and some prefer to do it alone some find it great being in a group each to there own :)

- Ruth (28th Jan 2019 - 20:56:28)

Good evening,

I’ve seen this group advertised in the past and have wondered if it would be right for me.

I’m not very fit and possibly a little overweight, im not looking at becoming a phenomenal runner, but to just get active again. Is this course suitable and do you have places left?

Re: Couch to 5K Running Group
- Daniel (29th Jan 2019 - 23:21:05)

Hi Ruth
This course is for beginners or those that may of had a long time away from running due to injury or just bringing up a family etc. There is no pressure to become a elite runner, the aim is to get anyone from not running, to running 5k in 11 weeks.
For more information please contact me at

- Anon (14th Feb 2019 - 09:45:32)

I can thoroughly recommend this course.

I did it, and if I did it ANYONE can do it. I was a complete non runner and not exercised in a number of years.

Daniel is a fantastic coach and will adapt things to suit you.

If you’re considering it and there’s spaces still available, you certainly won’t regret it.

Good luck Daniel with this next course.
