Drivers: If it's dark put your headlights on!
- NB (8th Nov 2018 - 20:10:15)

I'm shocked by the number of drivers around that don't put their headlights on when it's dark. In the last couple of days I've seen 3 cars & 1 motorbike.

The rider on the motorbike was wearing all dark clothing which did nothing to help him/her be seen by others. Must have had a death-wish.

How long do people need to adjust to the clocks going back before they adjust their behaviour?

It's probably a symptom of automatic headlights - I was guilty the other day of leaving my lights off after having some new tyres fitted where the workshop had turned them off. I would normally expect them to come on automatically. Fortunately it wasn't too dark and I realised fairly soon (well after someone flashed their headlights as I joined the A3!)

Whilst on the subject of lights - I am concerned by the number of cars with only 1 headlight working - Please check them - for your own safety.

Yes please fix headlights it is dark around here and you need both to see the joggers on the road in the dark.

Agree absolutely about putting headlights on, but also it is important to make sure a car's headlights are properly adjusted. It is just as dangerous for oncoming cars to be blinded by headlights not on main beam but just badly adjusted. Also some of the large 4x4 vehicles have such bright lights and are so much higher than the smaller cars and this can be a real problem to the drivers of oncoming cars. However I don't think anything can be done about that sadly.

Agree Penny .
I have a SUV & I'm forever being flashed to turn my lights down by motorists who assume I have full beam on .
My lights are not set high. Nothing I can do about it !

Most modern cars have an adjuster for headlights, you can adjust to how many passengers are on board, usually a thumb dial to right of steering wheel

Cars with Xenon headlights have to have automatic height adjustment, if they are too high, then specialist attention will be needed. As car headlights are getting brighter, many people will assume that car headlights were adjusted incorrectly, but really the beam is more effective. Best thing is if you are following a car, and you think your headlights are too high...drop back

As I said my lights are not adjusted to the highest setting . They are adjusted to low.

My partner had a accident a few years ago in liphook because someone hit her with no lights and we got told it was our fault because we pulled out on them
