crossing point outside lloyds bank - Julie (19th Apr 2018 - 17:08:24) Can people please remember that the crossing point outside Lloyds bank it not a zebra crossing, you can't just walk out into the road. A young couple did just that causing us to stop quickly and when it was pointed out that it's not a pedestrian priority crossing, we got told to f××× off. Not nice or necessary.

There are 2 clearly marked pedestrian crossings in the square by which they can get to where they want to go, The marked pavement outside the bank is NOT an official pedestrian crossing, you do not have to give way as a motorist if someone walks out in front of you there they are Jaywalking!

I think you'll find according to the police you do have to give way if someone steps out in front of your car, or at least try! The alternative is called 'running them over' and that is probably a bit wrong!

If someone steps out though not on a crossing it is their risk and not careless driving on the part of the driver

Re: crossing point outside lloyds bank - Mary W (22nd Apr 2018 - 11:31:46) There’s not much difficulty in stopping if you’re going at 20 mph but it is a shock if people try to cross suddenly without any eye contact or encouragement. I’m thinking particularly of the point on the third roundabout near the chemist’s. There are only the bollards and change of surface, presumably telling the elderly that there is a dropped pavement. With a mobility problem that slows me up - I am likely to fall flat if I try to trot - I am very nervous about crossing to get to the chemists, and it’s pretty dangerous crossing anywhere on the Haslemere and the Midhurst road. It might help if the colour of the stones that mark the suggested crossing points was brighter or made of that red tarmac that some hazardous road points are paved with? Like they do in front of the residential road that joins the A3 as you come into the 50mph zone approaching the hospital stretch.

Every day I go for a walk around the village and the amount of people speeding past Bohunt is a joke. Most days I cross on the Zebra crossing and usually twice a week cars fail to stop anyway, and that's on a marked crossing with pedestrian priority. People get behind the wheel and go into their own little bubble.

Re: crossing point outside lloyds bank - P Butt (23rd Apr 2018 - 12:17:55) Make a change for somebody to cross at a crossing other day elderly lady tried to cross by flower bed 10ft away from crossing had to stop as car came around roundabout then she continued to cross only to go to her car parked in the layby just down from lloyds Put railing up please so people are forced to use the crossing and get rid of crossing by bike shop in the morning with kids chaos Better still pedestrianise all of liphook that’ll mess em up good n proper

Re: crossing point outside lloyds bank - Dee (24th Apr 2018 - 18:22:30) Brilliant idea close the road by the Old Anchor garage force traffic along station road and up the Portsmouth Road, create non moving traffic. No problem with crossing the road, or jay walking because the traffic will be at a standstill. ;-)

Re: crossing point outside lloyds bank - Lizzy (27th Jun 2018 - 23:13:49) Hi Liphook really needs clearly marked courtesy crossings, e.g. by Ship House, at the beginning of the Haslemere Road, in the Midhurst Road, I believe we need more. Hantsweb describes a courtesy crossing as follows: “A courtesy crossing consists of dropped kerbing on both sides of the road to ease the crossing movement and identify a point at which pedestrians will be crossing. This type of aid can easily be incorporated into traffic calming features such as pinch points and build outs, and can be highlighted to motorists by the use of coloured surface treatments and reflective bollards” In Liphook it is unclear where the Courtesy Crossings are as they are not marked as above.
