Off-road cycling

Can any parents recommend local locations for safe, flat off-road cycling, suitable for children aged 10 and under?

If it's for teaching them to ride Alice Holt has a purpose built figure of 8 track and a few safe flat shared paths. In Liphook there's a good track between the Deers Hut and the Links Most off road tracks are hilly or bumpy round here but the Devils Punch Bowl shared track is a safe and smooth track but they'll need to have mastered braking to go down towards Thursley! Also the forest path from Highfield Lane to Stanley Farm is pretty good (but the little first bit is private (ahem!) unless you take the proper bumpy cycle path which you must of course, no looking to make sure the path is clear and then bunking it! Iron Hill is out of course but when they're older they'll love bombing down it going wheeee!!

You should go to the Longmoor Ranges that extend between Liphook and Whitehill. A fair few miles of flat cycling, apart from a couple of hills, the kids love it.

The long, straight tarmac road up on Bramshott Common (top of Rectory Lane, then left away from the A3).
This is a place many local kids learnt to ride a bike. MOD land so not open to traffic.

Re: Off-road cycling - Ranges

Does anyone know if the loop around the ranges is back open again after they dug a big hole last year for the drainage/road works near Whitehill?

Anna, that section of the ranges (near Conford) will be closed pretty much all of Summer.
You can get round it quite easily and back on again though with only a small section of road to do (about 200m)

There is a reasonably local MTB training school for young kids, if anyone is interested:

I run a mountain bike club for young riders under 13 www.pedal2pedal.co.uk from Queen Elizabeth Country Park.
I also do summer camps for kids.
