Ray @ Castlegar Domestic
- MH (17th Dec 2016 - 11:53:44)

We required an electrician due to a complete loss of power on the 1st floor. Ray was recommended via Liphook Talkback and I have to say, what a great choice.

We have 2 young kids and understanding the urgency of the issue, Ray was with us within hours even though he was on another job, managed to repair the problem temporarily until the correct parts were delivered and didn't ask for any form of payment until the job was properly finished.

Unfailingly polite and professional, if you need an electrician, Ray is your man, highly recommended.

I couldn't agree more. Ray is completely dependable and thoroughly professional. He has done a lot of work in our house and I would recommend him without any hesitation.

I agree wholeheartedly! Ray came out to a problem we had with our electrics, stayed into the late evening to get us power and heating back on. An absolute gem of a trades person!

Ray has just done some replacement lighting in our kitchen and cupboard. He has done a fantastic job and I would recommend him highly.

Ray is absolutely fantastic! We would use him again in a heartbeat.

If only I could find a plumber I can say the same about. Can anyone recommend?

I came on this site, looking for a reputable electrician, i thought great,so phoned Ray,he got back to me a few days later,..booked me in for this evening, after 6pm,..7.30,no Ray, i cancelled my evening out with friends, for a security light to be fitted,I ended up phoning him, because of the rain he said he had over looked me,....you should have let me know Ray,completely out of order,..not even an apology! .

Well done, for prioritising those most in need

I’m certain the reasons were due to weather and some urgent need of someone. Such is the nature of this professional yet humble man.

Taking to this forum with such negative comment could be extremely damaging to his reputation.

That said, those that have such positive experiences that go above and beyond at times i’m Sure will join me in supporting Ray

I hope your day got better

- Paula (1st Jun 2018 - 15:37:21)

You weren't at the receiving end Lizzie, as for negativety,..i spoke the truth,he let me down, one phone call that's all it would have taken,..you can make as many excuses as you like for him he was "out of order"..maybe he will think in the future, ..i would have got it done by someone else,if i had known what was about to happen,i need a security light,as i'm at risk of falling!....

Re: Ray @ Castlegar Domestic
- Helen (1st Jun 2018 - 15:47:01)

I would have thought it would be dangerous to fit an outdoor light in the rain?

Re: Ray @ Castlegar Domestic
- d (1st Jun 2018 - 17:08:41)

Thought it wouldn't be long before a moaner arrived on the scene!

Re: Ray @ Castlegar Domestic
- Paula (1st Jun 2018 - 17:28:40)

Ray let me down, he should have rang me,how many more has he or will he let down?..got nothing to do with "moaning "!

Re: Ray @ Castlegar Domestic
- Paula (1st Jun 2018 - 17:37:58)

Yes it would be dangerous to fit a light in the rain,..so why didnt he ring me???....i rang him,to which he replied i over looked you,as it was raining, ...,well then he should have "Rang Me"!...no apology, nothing,!.
and actually the light was going in the porch.it wasn't raining in there.

- J (1st Jun 2018 - 20:47:33)

It would appear that in Paula’s world people aren’t allowed to make mistakes. (Do you work for Ofsted by any chance?)

Unfortunately it sounds like you are unwilling to let Ray make amends for the oversight, which would be the real test of good customer service.

I should say that I have no experience of or affiliation to Ray or his company.

Re: Ray @ Castlegar Domestic
- Paula (1st Jun 2018 - 21:16:44)

It has nothing to do with living in "Paula World "....,..you obviously haven't read my posts,..there was "no mistake"...he didn't turn up,not even a phone call,..that is not a mistake as you call it,....it's called communication, ..if people run a business, be prepared for the reviews, and you weren't on the receiving end!..i have nothing further to say on this matter,i believe i have made myself clear.

Re: Ray @ Castlegar Domestic
- J (2nd Jun 2018 - 07:14:26)

You said “i rang him,to which he replied i over looked you,as it was raining” which sounds precisely like a mistake was made to me. I doubt it was done on purpose. For all we or you know he may have had extenuating personal circumstances which prevented a phone call at the time.

Stop ranting and let people try to rectify things before passing judgment. We are all human, we all make mistakes.

Re: Ray @ Castlegar Domestic
- H (2nd Jun 2018 - 15:57:15)

Totally agree with J.

Reading this thread, I have not lost any respect for Ray, but as for Paula who thought it appropriate to use a public forum to air a very petty grievance and vent her self-indulgent anger over a simple mistake, there's no need to say much, as she has hung herself on her own petard.

It should have been obvious that the light could not have been fitted that evening anyway in the downpour, so the only real loss to Paula was her evening out.  She was entitled to a quick call and in this Ray was in error, but as has been pointed out, we all make these mistakes and it was not a catastrophic disaster.

The crux of the matter is that Paula  believed that missing a social evening and not receiving a phone call was a valid justification for publicly besmirching a local tradesman's reputation and potentially damaging his means of earning a living.

It appears that she hastily posted her comment in anger straight after the missed appointment,  but even a day later she was still full of an over inflated sense of outrage.

All rational people would agree that one small communication error is not sufficient evidence to blacken a Iocal tradesman's good name.

I think Paula was extremely fortunate to find an electrician willing to do a small job after working hours, and although I don't personally know Ray, if I need an electrician in the future, I will certainly give him a call.

- Ian (2nd Jun 2018 - 17:29:05)

Used Ray myself, great chap and put himself out for us to help. Of course experiences vary but too many people who use the Internet feel the need to run hard working businesses down, Paula clearly wanted to harm Ray and his business, vile!
