Dog control at QE Park

Dog owners could face a £1,000 fine if they fail to control or clean up after their pet at Queen Elizabeth Country Park.

Following regular attacks on livestock and problems with dog fouling three Dog Control Orders have been placed on land within the park.

The orders have been drawn up by East Hampshire District Council and Hampshire County Council and came into force on Thursday April 12.

It is now an offence to:

(a) fail to remove dog faeces from the land;

(b) take more than six dogs on to the land at any one time;

(c) not keep a dog on a lead while on certain blocks of the land only while those blocks are being used for the grazing of livestock.

The orders have been made under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 following consultation with the public and other interested parties. Hampshire County Council staff will be trained and authorised to enforce the legislation and offenders may be liable to a fine of up to £1,000.

The legislation was considered necessary following regular problems caused by dogs fouling, attacking livestock and disturbing ground nesting birds in the area.

A copy of the orders may be obtained from Queen Elizabeth Country Park, Gravel Hill, Horndean PO8 0QE from 12 April 2012 by sending a written request or visiting the Park Centre during opening hours.

Alternatively they can be seen on www.easthants.gov.uk – search for Dogs and Animals.
