Liphook Water

Tap water supplied to South East Water’s 2.1 million customers continues to be of very good quality, according to the industry’s drinking water watchdog.

Figures released today show the Company achieved 99.96 per cent compliance with standards set by the Drinking Water Inspectorate – in line with the national average.

Over 220,000 tests were carried out by the Company during 2010 to ensure top quality water supplied to customers across parts of Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire was safe to drink.

Every time you turn on your tap you can do so with the confidence that your tap water is safe to drink. The water from your tap is amongst the very best in the world and South East Water continues to invest in the very latest technology to ensure it stays that way.

The Company is continually investing in new pipes, treatment processes and laboratory equipment and tests for over 100 substances at its state-of-the-art laboratory to ensure customers receive top quality tap water.

David Smith, Head of Water Quality for South East Water, said: “Despite the continued increase in demand for water in the South East and our extensive and growing network of pipes, pumping stations and treatment works, we have maintained our good record on water quality.

“Our ongoing investment in upgrading our network of water mains and improving our treatment processes has ensured that we continue to meet the stringent water quality standards.

“The results clearly indicate that every time a customer turns on the tap they can do so with the confidence they are receiving top quality water which is safe to drink. However, we are not complacent and are continually striving to further improve our water quality standards.”

South East Water supplies, on average, 565 million litres of water a day through its 14,500 km of water mains, with this figure predicted to rise to nearly 700 million litres of water a day by 2035.
