Fete Success

Residents of Avenue Close double their efforts for Macmillan.

Last year they proved the could hold a successful fete in their cul-de-sac. This year residents of Avenue Close doubled their efforts to fill the grassy area opposite their houses with popular and original stalls. As well as some of the old favourites - Guess the Flavour of the Crisp, to testing their knowledge of London with pictures of inconic buildings and to try their skill at 'Shulback' - a hectic board game from Holland that had children forming queues.

For those who fancied a cool drink, the Pimms Tent offered a pleasant resting place for adults, as did the popular Wine Tasting stall.

"It was fantastic to see so many families on our cul-de-sac having a good time" said Frances O'Neill, one of the organisers of the event. "It was great too that every resident contributed in some way towards the fete".

In just over two hours the fete raised over £800 for Macmillan nurses, with several pledges and donations still to come in. Thanks go to the Gurkha Chautari Nepalese restaurant in Liphook and Flowers In The Avenue (also of Liphook), for sponsoring the event with raffle prizes.

Plans are already underway for the July 2009 event with residents putting their thinking caps on for the next lot of inventive stalls!
