Inspector's decision

A Government inspector has ruled that council planners were right not to allow a new house to be built on part of a back garden in Liphook.

He said it could have opened the way for similar developments which would seriously harm the character of the Headley Road area of the village.

The inspector, Mr A Mead, has rejected an appeal against a decision by East Hampshire District Council to refuse outline permission for a new dwelling on land at Mapletrees in Headley Road.

As well as voicing fears about the long term impact of the proposed development, he said he was also concerned about what would happen to trees on the site.
