Old A3 Future

Tuesday June 17
Millennium Centre, Ontario Way
Starts at 6.30pm

Future of the old A3 around Devil’s Punch Bowl, once route of A3 tunnel has been completed

Representatives from the Highways Agency will be introducing their proposal to close the old A3 (between the National Trust café and Boundless Road) across the Devil’s Punch Bowl, once the new route of the A3 through the tunnel has been completed.

This has been a controversial issue since the finance was agreed by central government, to build the tunnel, to relieve pressure at the notorious Hindhead Crossways junction. All of us who live in the area know that Crossways has been a chokepoint for many years and the number of accidents at the crossroads shows no sign of diminishing.

Whether you are in favour of closure of the old A3 – or support the STOAT campaign, to keep it open for local traffic only, this meeting is well worth attending.

Following a short presentation by the Highways Agency engineers and planners, other organisations and members of the public will have an opportunity to ask questions and put their view and make comment.

The possible implications to be considered include:

  • effect of the closure of the existing A3 around the Devil’s Punch Bowl
  • changes to local traffic movements as a consequence of the scheme

It’s bound to be a lively evening, so why not come along.
