A devastating blow for Passfield
- purplecurly (15th Oct 2007 - 15:57:44)
A devastating blow for Passfield
I am so upset.
I have just been into the Post Office Stores to find out that they are to be axed.
It is highly unlikely that the shop will be profitable enough to remain open without it – and with one fell swoop – the ONLY amenity in Passfield is wiped out!
This is a disgrace – how dare the ‘nameless faceless powers that be’ be able to decimate our tiny community like this.

Am so sorry to hear that. Thats really bad news for the shop and Passfield. Would it help at all if I placed a small write up about this in our new Community Magazine? Along with trying to push the shop etc etc..it may help? you can contact me on info@ctconnector.co.uk and of course any other community issues that need to be 'aired'

My deepest sympathies go to the village and store.
Unfortunately, the faceless people as you call them never equate to the human loss or that of an individual, community or family - its only money to them! Shit happens.
I do hope that they can continue to trade and give Passfield an opportunity to use them - perhaps they could do more fresh veg - it seems that is what people crave, and possibly they could do a deal with riverford down the road?? Would lottery sales help?
When will the PO side close?
Sue

I really hope that ALL the people who said they were going to write letters to their MP. . . . . DID SO.
It is all very good turning up for a photo shoot (as most of Passfield did), but if you don't then go on to do what is needed - then there is no point!
If you didn't write to our MP, then shame on you.

I wrote and received replies from his assistant as he (James A) was on holiday at the time. There was also some literature included explaining the Post Office's position. I was confident that the outcome would be a happy one but obviously not. However, isn't there an appeal procedure?

As you can appreciate Susan and myself are devastated by the proposed closure not only for us but also for the residents of Passfield, Conford, Hollywater and Stanford.
There is an appeals procedure you can write to:-

Thanks for the info John.
I will write.
(Although I feel that this will just be a bureaucratic paper exercise)
I suppose you must now address your sales, work out what your best sellers are and expand into those areas.
Perhaps a couple of table outside for eating rolls?
A coffee machine?
Cream teas?
Just thinking out loud really!

I have read with interest the comments about Passfield PO and feel really angry that Post Office Ltd can threaten this office with closure less than one year after John&Sue have invested their money into this venture and that THEY ( post office ) assigned John as the postmaster. Where are the morels in that! I have written a very strong email to Tim Nickolls and urge all residents to do the same, it is at this time John & Sue need our support more than ever, don't think that because you wrote before you need not write this time, it is the only way to make change happen.
The shop has been in village for around 100 years and now needs more than ever the support of all residents.
Everyone must be looking at spending more money in the shop on a daily/weekly/or occasional basis, there are things stocked that everyone buys in the supermarket otherwise the supermarket will be the only place left to shop.

I will of course be writing to Tim Nickolls objecting to the proposed closure but I don't hold out much hope as I suspect this is just a PR exercise. I wonder if Mr Nickolls himself will actually see our comments!

I would like to point out to the good residents of Passfield that I am not phoning up the paper every blinking week to moan and gripe etc...
I have been quoted as if i'm the only Passfield resident with a view for about 3 consequtive weeks now despite only ever talking to the paper about the death of Robyn France in the summer.
It seems that if they have your name and address they can publish it in connection with the village whenever they feel like without permission.
On one hand I don't mind because all the time Passfield issues are in the paper (ie: Post office closure; dangerous junction; pathetic attempt to move the bus stop into middle of dangerous junction; missing building / development money; dangerous paths due to lack of paving etc etc) there is more chance of the 'powers that be' doing something about it. On the other hand - it would be nice to get a new opinion on a new matter and there are many more people than me living here - all of whom would be happy to contribute I am sure. . . .
So, sorry if you are fed up reading about what Dawn Hoskins said.......
(to the reporter concerned if you are reading. I work every day, I am home about 8pm most nights. I know you have my number but a voice message on press deadline day is too late to ask my opinion. It would perhaps be polite to let me know if I am to be continually mentioned in the press)

Once again, you are not the first to find yourself in that position. I too had first hand experience of exactly the same over the Sainsburys issue. Yes I did put my self up like you to express feelings - but they do run with a story in their own way - having a persons name gives them an excuse to print - now you can see why so many people do not raise their heads, get involved and not just to the press either.
I after an explosive incident, with a reported mis-comment, refused to comment any further and left it to others - hence the whole issue died. When we had such good and positive feed back from the community and we decided to remain open, I asked if they could print a small piece - guess what NO. It wasn't a good enough piece to run - but if we wanted to PAY for an advert they would.
People just love to slap others down, even more so if they are the kind to moan well after the event and do nothing to help the situation!
I am sure you are of strong enough character to deal with it ....but how long for!
If as you say you only ever spoke to them once - have you tried speaking to them to correct the issue?

Just remembered one piece - it would have been taken from the Council meeting you attended and spoke at. As this is a public meeting I think they have rights to use anything said there - together with names.
Whether they still have to get your permission I don't know?
