Liphook Youth Forum - Barry Hope (4th Oct 2007 - 22:49:16) Just thought you might like to be updated on this topic as I know some have commented on the lack of progress since it started. I have received a letter from Liz Panton who is the Community Project Worker (Development) at EHDC. She replied to a question I asked at the Community Forum in Grayshott recently. In essence the reply stated the following: Since the first involvement by young people in the Community Forum (LYF) in Liphook a while ago, the Liphook Youth Forum has met on 5 occasions during 2007. The numbers of young people attending the Forum meetings have ranged from 8 to 34. Around eight young people attended the forum on a regular basis. The main priorities were: Improvements to the skatepark Youth Cafe More designer shops in Liphook Go Karting Having identified this, the LYF wanted to test these priorities with local people and so it arranged a BBQ. This was scheduled for 20th July, but fell victim to the bad weather we had over the summer. The LYF wishes to carry on with its plans to consult and has another event for later this tem. Once they have cocensus on the priorities, they will establish local action groups to deliver them. They have working with the support of the Hampshire Youth Service, Police, Community Safety Team and the Parish Council. Another positive outcome of this process has been that two representatives of the LYF have been elected onto the recently formed East Hampshire Youth Council. It seems that some progress has been made and I hope that a successful outcome will be achieved for those youth of Liphook who want to get involved in something positive instead of the minority who do not. I fully support any initiative that tries to address the complaints of the young people and hope they do well. Best wishes Barry
