South Downs National Park - Roger Miller (15th Sep 2007 - 13:25:15) There is an interesting article in today's Independent Newspaper written by Bill Bryson [The President of the CPRE] supporting an e-petition to the government urging them to maintain the original proposals for the South Downs National Park boundaries. An extract of the proposals shown on the web site petitions.pm.gov.uk/western-weald is detailed below 'There is widespread public support for a South Downs National Park based on the Designation Order boundary which included both the chalk downland and western Weald. While the inspector's recommendation to create a South Downs National Park is welcomed, there is huge concern at his recommendation to exclude the western Weald (including Petersfield, Liss, Midhurst and Petworth). This area is of exceptional quality and while different to the chalk downland has strong associations with it.' Readers of 'Talkback' might wish to consider this petition as Liphook will undoubtably be affected by the National Park whichever boundary is finally agreed.

Re: South Downs National Park - sue (24th Sep 2007 - 22:24:45) Just keeping this subject on first page. Since the posting here, and the piece in the Herald more names have been added. When I first looked it, was about 1500 names - todate it is now 2700 - its not too late to add more names.
