Wanted: The Views of Rugby & Hockey Players.
- Trevor Maroney (21st Nov 2012 - 10:23:41)

Does the community need to play rugby and hockey locally and, if so, where should the pitches be located? A recent Youth Survey indicated growing interest in both sports.

Are you an experienced player who would like to teach youngsters how to play these sports?

The Parish Plan will be considering the provision of local sports facilities at a public meeting in the Liphook Social Club, Headley Road on Thursday 29th November starting at 7.30 pm. So why not come along and share your wealth of experience on rugby or hockey with the planning team. All views will be considered.

We can add that to the list...

Medical Centre
Football Pitch or 2
Cricket Pitch
Swimming Pool (and associated leisure facilities)
Rugby Pitch
Hockey Pitch

Erm.. there is just a bit of an economic downturn going on and as someone has already mentioned it is a struggle to maintain essential services never mind fund a large range of leisure options.

We have astro turf and grass football / rugby pitches already at Bohunt, which I guess also double as hockey pitches when needed.

And we have a cricket club already which have lovely grounds and clubhouse.

You are quite right there is a lot to consider. We are certainly looking at the utilisation of all existing facilities in the Parish Plan. That is why we are asking the clubs - cricket, football, tennis and others - for their current usage and specific, additional requirements. We then need the community's views, in this case the sportsmen and women of the parish, on where they would like to place the priority and what they would like to see. We already know our youngsters' views: they are over 2:1 in favour of a swimming pool.

We hope to obtain a general consensus at next Thusday meeting. However, out of fairness, we do not want to exclude the views from any sport, hence the need for input from experienced rugby and hockey players. Wouldn't you agree?
