Birds nesting in loft
- A Pawlyszyn (20th Nov 2012 - 18:22:15)

Anyone know how to remove birds nesting in loft. ( humanely )

Firstly no there is no way you could humanely remove birds nesting in the loft. What sort of bird is nesting this time of year? and more importantly why would you want to remove them?

As far as I know it\'s only pigeons that would be nesting this time of year.

This might sound stupid... But if I wanted to get rid of birds nesting in my loft, I would start by going into the loft and disturbing them so that they leave, and then i'd fill in all of the holes through which they might return?

Have I missed something?! !

Make sure there are no bats in the loft as it is a offence to disturb their habitat including any sealing any access points

Please be aware that the law does protect nesting birds, see RSPB website. Extract as follows:

'Can birds' nests be removed?

As a rule, no. Most birds are fully protected and you must allow the young to leave the nest before taking any action to block the entrance holes.

Some birds' nests can be removed, but only if they are causing a threat to health and safety. The nests of feral pigeons can be legally removed anywhere in the UK, and house sparrows and starlings in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. If possible, please allow them to remain until the breeding cycle is complete.'

As previously posted very few birds nest this time of year.
