Friday night: vicious assault and criminal damage
- Freddie Dawkins (21st Feb 2004 - 10:20:48)
Would anyone who might have witnessed a gang attacking a group of teenagers in the Station car park area last night, please get in contact with Hampshire Police. One boy, totally innocent, was singled out and hurt.
The police were called and arrived too late to apprehend any of the attackers - who are known and live locally.
And if you saw a group throwing a grey wheelie bin into the back of a large white van in Headley Road a short while after, breaking both back windows, would you again please call Hampshire Police.
thx

Liphook is becoming the mid-eighties Bordon and Bordon is becoming the old Liphook. All since the Sainsburys development was put. Cooincidence? I think not.
I was at the station at around 6.50pm on Friday to pick my wife up, saw a group of teenagers milling around having a chat. didn't see an attack though and they didn't appear to be causing any grief to anyone.

Steve -
Thx for observations. I think last Friday night was a bad one for Liphook in general and the police in particular. I understand there were at least 4 assaults during the evening and that there were up to five police cars and 10 officers responding.
A friend who lives near the station says that this type of incident happens very regularly now and that the police have drawn batons and used pepper sprays on more than one occasion.
I think we have to accept that, every so often, there will be bad spells like this. It's just a reflection of the way society is going generally in this country - mostly young people drinking too much and showing mindless aggression.
I believe that there was a particularly nasty incident in The Square at around 12.30-1am. However, the guy who started the trouble came off worse, when his victim ably defended himself.
Hopefully, that's it for another few months and things will quieten down.
How sad.
rgds to all here
Freddie

This is not an issue which is just going to disappear, this will occur every week ( and does i can tell you that for a fact), just not always on this same vicious scale.
There are numerous reasons behind it.
some people just like fighting, maybe due to parental control, poor home life, cerebal problems, alcohol..
the fact of the matter is though that this has occured again.. and where did it occur ... oh look the train station.
Not if there is one organisation that i feel fails time and time again to do there job it is Hampshire constabulary.
There are without a doubt the most aggrogant police force ive ever come across.
I have never once seen a "prevented" attack within this village, even though they occur in just about the SAME place on the SAME days of the week.
Why do they not POLICE...
the iccidents mostly occur when people are returning from drinking in either petersfield/ guildford. Why isnt, one car, or two policemen.. even just ONE officer there at the station just as a DETERRANT.
Why?
Lack of man power cannot be an excuse.
because about 5 minutes after someone is left on the floor seriously injured they turn up in huge numbers screaming through the village centre.
how about if they were there 5 minutes earlier....

So you probably read the Daily Mail or The Sun eh?
I've had my run-ins with the police before (in my teenage years) and i found them pretty arrogant. But then again, i was being arrested at the time.
Man power is a reason. The police can't deploy their people everywhere just in case something happens, and even when it does they have to cover a wide area when coming from Whitehill. They also need to be there in numbers when dealing with any risk of violence, and naturally have to prioritise cases.
But since you are a sociological expert on such matters and clearly passionate about the situation, could you enlighten us all on:
1) The statistics for violent incidences and police response times in the whitehill area
2) Your solutions to the problems the police and community face as a whole, and how they would be implemented without burdening local authority finances

Look it's pretty obvious really. Most of the police force are far too busy arresting real criminals like drivers doing 5 mph over the speed limit to worry about people getting beaten up. The police force make no money from someone getting beaten, knifed, bottled and/or whatever and someone driving at 75mph on a dual carriageway is a serious trouble maker. They make a nice tidy sum from speed cameras and their little speed traps that they set up. Of course we know that none of this is done to increase revenue for the police force just to stop accidents.
Statistics say that there are no less accidents in this country since cameras came in then there were before, so does that mean they are not working? No they are doing exactly what they were put there for. Money Money Money.
Anyway I lost the thread there I think, where were we. Arrogant they are, they never used to be. I have known of many incidents where friends of mine have called the police only to have to wait 45 mins plus.

I have a few friends in the Met (by 'friends' i mean people i have a beer with - not people who keep me under surveillance), and they tell me that cops outside the city are nicknamed "County Mounties". Those who are slightly gung-ho are called "Wooodentops".
Most of the experiences i have had recently with the police at whitehill have been fantastically positive. It seems the CPS and justice system is what they complain about, as cases tend to stall at the interview level. Whats the use of tracking people down just to throw them into Alton magistrates court for a £50 fine? Who cares about a few drunks beating the hell out of each other? Who wants 8 hours of paperwork when you're going off duty?
I remember meeting a senior policeman who had become too ill for active duty and now spends his time vetting & training new officers for Surrey. He did say to me (a few years back) that Hants had a disproportionally high rate of those that had 'question marks' over their character, and even went so far as to say that they were 'one of the worst local forces in the country'.
Is it because you don't see them on the street consistently that they don't appear to be doing their job?

No I see them all the time, normally in my rear view mirror in the BMW lane tailing me to check that I am not doing more than 69mph.

At no point in my post was i personally abusive towards you alex cameron, i dont know who you are, and you dont know me, i feel quite ashamed that i share the same first name as someone who clearly thinks they are an intelligent young pinnacle of the liphook, whereas truthfully your viewpoints are totally misguided and filled with guano.
I have never been arrested in my life, but i have recieved numerous hassle from them on uncountable occasions when i am not a criminal and have no intention of being one, just like Steve states, they prefer to drive right behind you in there lovely Tuned BMW's waiting for you to forget to indicate rather than actually doing POLICING ( look up the meaning of that in the dictonary alex, just like you probably do with you other big words)
There was major panik recently where i lived as the fear was that two young children had maybe possibly been kidnapped ( they had subquently only taken the dogs for a long walk by the way)
, we tried to advise the police alittle bit about the situation and where they like to go, but they totally ignored us saying very arrogantly " we know what we are doing sir".
Next thing they turn round to us and ask us if we have heard of "bohunt school" because they would like to have a look around there.
What was that then Alex, a slip of the tongue? or maybe they aren't as good at their jobs as you like to think.
My point was.
The station is a known trouble spot for violence week in week out. They could so easily be there for maybe one hour two hour, with no strain on the manpower, but no at around 11'o clock i can be almost 100% sure that they will in fact be nice and warm cruising around in their BMX's pulling over cars with large exhausts.
Dont try and make me look silly Alex. Think about what ive said, and if you think you can disagree then fine. if you do i personally think that you are lying.
( cheers steve , you aren't oblivous to the truth)

ar·ro·gant P Pronunciation Key (r-gnt) adj.
- Having or displaying a sense of overbearing self-worth or self-importance.
- Marked by or arising from a feeling or assumption of one's superiority toward others: 'an arrogant contempt for the weak.'

I'm not trying to make you look stupid Mr K. Unfortunately you are doing too good a job of that yourself without me needing to step in. This is a forum for legitimate informed debate (read previous postings), not a playground to trade rants and shout your own silly rhetoric without any means to back it up. I'm guessing here, but i reckon you can't be any older than 16 (am i right?). Either that or you are new to this thing we call 'the internet'.
I don't make any presumptions about who i appear to be - personally speaking, i just like words to be spelt correctly and time taken to format grammar so it makes sense. Your argument lacks any water, and it's presented in the most ignorant way. Sorry, but it just got my back up. The Ed is probably enjoying this a lot - FLAME WAR! ;) At least the Herald have a new headline.
You can't speak with authority (or speculate) on the delegation of police resources, and neither can anyone else here. Your argument is a gross generalisation, which is naive considering the newspapers were full of drama a few weeks ago about the reduction in manpower that liphook would be subject to (see Freddie's 'community support officers' thread). I can however see the issue with speed camera revenue. In terms of chasing BMWs, we had a thread a while ago mentioning the issues to do with the way that the A3 bypass aids the spread of 'crime tourism' in the village. Quite what the whitehill policy is on this i don't know - Mr K why don't you ask the guys at the station?
Why are you so defensive? I've criticised your arguments, the way they are presented, and the influences for them, not you personally. Please don't just whinge - do your research, have something to back it up with, and rationalise it for us unwashed to examine before you simply vomit out your own personal prejudices.
In the words of someone whose name i can't remember, "is that a boulder on your shoulder?". Btw, you didn't answer my questions - where are those statistics, and what are your realistic solutions?

Re: Friday night: vicious assault and criminal damage
- Steve (26th Mar 2004 - 12:58:36)
Just to add a little something to this argument. Did anyone know that in the 90's Dorset police force purchased 3 brand new Ferrari's 355's as pursuit vehicles. Now my car will possibly out run one of them but it will have more difficulty with a specced up Skyline GTR34 or other 30-50k Sports cars. So why did they need to spend 500k for 3 of these? They retired one of them in the late 90's. Most people don't have high performance cars so a Subaru unmarked is more than enough, why a Ferrari? Is that in case someone else with a Ferrari drives at 150?
Did you also know that in the Midlands they have 2 Ferrari's? Now if that isn't a waste of tax payers cash I don't know what is.
I'm sorry I agree with both your earlier points before the argument but the Police Force are only interested in making arrests where they can make cash. Drivers are an easy target. Next time you get pulled over for not signalling ask them why they are not at Liphook station stopping some real little hooligan bottling an innocent person. I bet you your be in more trouble than you know how to deal with. Pathetic it is.

Steve you talk sense.
Alex - this board is like any other board on internet, full of wind up's mate :)
i see you got pretty bad "trolled" in the cats thread. Could think up a good reply to that one could you ? hehe. All good fun though.
In answer to one of your questions though , i am over 16. Maybe we should have a poll?

Embarassed Mr K?
Not the best exit strategy (or supposed troll) i've ever seen. ;) Nice try, but no cigar. That move is well known as the 'quicksand troll manoeuvre'.
