Countrywide and alcohol
- Alan (25th Jul 2007 - 21:14:41)

Interesting to see that Countrywide have applied for a licence to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises.

Guess it could just be to cover the sale of seasonal bottles of scotch etc rather than in competition with the Big S !

They can even sell it from noon to 3pm and 7pm to 10:30pm on Christmas day.

What?
I thought this was a store for horse feed etc...
Are they selling other food and drinks as well?

I think you will find this store another variation on the one stop shop syndrome.

Maybe they should change their name to Summerfield ;)

This is not as sinister as it might seem.

The original licence held by Somerfield was transferred to Countrywide on the 19/06/07, on the 25th the 'supervisor' was updated and then the opening times were requested to be changed - this is still open.

It would be logical for a company to retain a licence even if it had no existing plans to use it.

It is also fair to comment that just because the licence is for the times stated and days - it doesn't mean that they will. I believe it is a 'standard' format and each shop will choose the hours to stay open.

I do think it is rather a strange product to sell - but if you have an estate/farm and hold 'shooting' parties (or any other kind)- perhaps to purchase a case of wine is what they want. Sadly there is an excellent wine shop just down the road - but hopefully, in time these new shoppers to Liphook will find that out for themselves.

Have made enquiries about this they are not intending to sell alcohol merely retain the licence

I notice that they are selling flagons of cider. (Very country!)

Re: Countrywide and alcohol

If it was the case that the enquiry Barbara made and discovered that Country Wide did not Intend to SELL booze, but now are - its just another case of say one thing and do another!!. Tip of the iceberg?

So Countrywide now sells cider, and hoodies, and knives, and axes ...

Draw your own conclusions. We should have an ASBO served on them immediately.

And I believe they have permission to build a 10ft fence around their car park.

Perhaps we could use it as an over flow prison for Liphook youths and yobs.

Oh, and by the way apparently the prices listed on shelves at
Countrywide don't include VAT, so expect an extra 17.5% when you get to the till!

It might get really nasty soon, the could be selling fags!

Re: Countrywide and alcohol

Rhys

Just to slightly adjust your comment about their prices are ex vat - No they are not. All prices shown on shelf edging are inclusive of VAT. (as with most shops). Information received from Kate at customer care services. They DO sometimes have flyers for 'bulk' animal feeds which will seperate the two, but for the customer entering the store the price you see - should be the price you pay - unless their 'system' says otherwise (as happened to a customer on Thursday!) You may have a receipt which shows the cost of vat (like petrol).
