Electricity supply
- Freddie Dawkins (23rd Jul 2007 - 16:44:56)

It's been a thorn in the sides of Liphook residents for many years - electricity blackouts after/during rain and wind.

I saw what looked like a temporary, mobile, generator parked up to the side of The Links car park on Friday evening. Presumably that's what had to be used to get the supply back to more than 700 homes in parts of the village, after an all-day blackout.

I spoke to Scottish and Southern Electrcity planners some time ago and they promised they would look at the situation.

At one time we were promised extra capacity fed more directly into the village from spare capacity at Bordon/Whitehill. Given all the extra building that is continuing in Liphook, Bramshott, Lindford, Headley...it looks as if those plans have fell by the wayside. Has anyone else been able to get info from SSE?

Passfield (well - Arundel Close) was out for most of Sunday afternoon / evening.

What's going on?

Most of Liphook was wiped out again this afternoon. What is causing this - any one know?

Hmmm, may be its the storm-like weather we've been having!!

Liphook is fed by three elictric lines all of which come into the village through wood land, and because of this trress come into contact with the lines and we have the occasional power cut.
there are two solutions

1. cut down all the trees

2. build a power station in Liphook!!

and no you can't put the cables underground for many reasons besides cost.

I think the last word of the Simon's last paragraph is the sole reason nothing will ever be done.

It's not good enough to be honest. I wonder if the Parish council would like to foot a bill for a decent UPS for my severs in my office?

What area does the little sub-station [between Passfield and Headley] serve then?

Can't it be made a bit more powerful / bigger

Who is responsible for maintaining the trees so that they don't touch the cables?

A sub station does not actually generate electricity, it still has to get here.

The trees tend to grow by themselves, sue them at your peril.

(Thanks for making the "human" question easier tonight Ed)

Just reading the Talkback - lived in Liphook for about 9 years in the 80's and remember the "Great Storm". No electricity for 2 weeks then - am surprised to hear that you are still having problems. Also interesting to read about the school still having problems with the traffic. This has been like this since about 1984/5 when my two "little ones" to school and I think the problems existed a long time before that!
