Long Summer Holiday Ideas
- purplecurly (17th Jul 2007 - 19:15:16)
I have just discovered this excellent subsidised scheme run by Surrey County Council.
www.surreycc.gov.uk/adventurecourses
the places are running out REALLY fast though. I have just booked a TWO FULL DAY teenage adventure multi-activity course at the thames Young Mariners Outdoor Education Centre for my 14 year old. [62.00]
They do loads of different stuff for different ages - not all of them involve water -
Better get it booked quickly before all the places get snapped up.
I wish East Hants did something like it too............
Good luck

Looks good, tho rather expensive if you have more than 1 child.
during the summer holidays,I hook up with other mums and we take the kids to the Queen Elizabeth Country Park...load up the bikes and you can spend all day there. Even hire a bbq if the weather is nice.
Also for younger kids, the indoor adventure park in Alton is good.
The Taro Centre is also worth looking into, you can buy a family membership and spend endless days with the kids there

I'm not sure how expensive it is when you think of what they get.
8 hours each day of total supervision and new experiences. Much cheaper than child care!
Still, I know that it will be out of reach financially for a lot of people. I wish there were more organised / fun things locally. I know there is the park and the beach but with 3 teenagers it is difficult to keep them enthusiastic about the pursuits that we used to enjoy as children.
Mind you...as you say, it would probably be less expensive to book a last minute holiday in the sun than book all three into an activity club!!

Hi Purple,
Send them off to work on a farm hay carting or fruit picking. Its good for them and they earn some money too ...
