Liphook bloomers
- sue (6th Jul 2007 - 12:15:44)
What a lovelly lot of flowers around this year!
I spotted a large gang of volunteers in the square yesterday - I hope you are successful in getting the gold this year - to co-incide with your 10th birthday.
Your time given for others and the village is fantastic.
Keep it up, and I hope where ever possible others will do their bit to keep it tidy for next week.

Dear Sue
Thanks you for your kind comments. It is in deed Liphook in Bloom week this week which entails judges from South East in Bloom touring round the village. It is not judged purely on the flowers but on open green spaces, community involvement, sustainable development, parish/district council involvement, conservation, water/drought conditions and many more aspects.
A big thank you from everyone at Liphook in Bloom to all the shop keepers who make an effort and make their windows look great for the window competition, to all the home owners who enter their baskets and gardens in to the local competition, to all the school children who enter the planted tin competition, to all other entrants, judges and sponsor of which there are so many it is a pleasure to say there are too many to mention.
Judging day is tomorrow so any extra help in popping any litter in to waster bins, tidying public and private gardens is all appreciated.
Liphook is a vibrant community and a great place to live. Lets all celebrate that this week and hopefully the sun will shine too.
Many thanks again

Yes, I am sure that regional and county recognition is important, but just in case they don't know it already we locals really appreciate the work that Liphook in Bloom do for the village and this year they have excelled themselves.
Well done

Have to agree with Paul and say this year the village looks fantastic. So much hard work has been put in by all from the LIB team, thank you for everything you do to make our village look so pretty!
We recently put our house on the market and very nearly moved out of Liphook but I am so glad that we lost our house in Headley Down and decided to stay, I know we have our fair share of problems (doesn't everyone) but we do have such a fantastic community spirit and Liphook really is a great place to live.
Now we have the Carnival to look forward to and as the Chairperson of said Committee, we need more volunteers to help! Anyone interested in a Secretarial role or maybe even looking after the PR? You can contact me via Talkback!

I spent yeaterday morning touring round Liphook for 2 Hrs with the South & South East RHS judges and our prayers were answered, it did not rain. I was born in Liphook and have always been proud of Liphook, which is probable why I became chairman of LIB but I have never been prouder than yesterday.
Over the last week I have seen many frontages of residential and commercial properties being tidied and swept and I like to think that it was because of the eminent judging of Liphook. Whether it was or not the result was fantastic. The streets were clean, there was no litter and the majority of properties looked great. Katy has already thanked the entrants to our local competition but I want to say a big thank you to all the people who helped in their own way, by either tidying their properties or picking up litter and I know there are quite a few people that walk round the village all the year with a carrier bag doing just that.
The feeling we got from the judges were that they were very impressed just how impressed we have to wait untill the begining of September to find out.
The village has always had a good community spirit that is why the carnival has managed to exist for over 100yrs. Liphook in Bloom is only celebrating its 10th birthday but with the support the community has shown this week I am sure it will continue for a very long time.
So a big THANK YOU to all of you.
Irene Ellis ( chairman of LIB)
