Lindford roundabout
- Rhys G (2nd Jul 2007 - 19:09:24)
Has anyone else been caught out by the new roundabout in Lindford?
They have suddenly put a roundabout on a 40mph road, which you cannot see until you're half way across. There is sure to be a serious accident there in the near future.
The signs are no way sufficient enough.
Why have they given the smaller road equal priority, when I rarely even see a car there, in the first place?
[editor - I knew it was being built, but nearly got caught myself a few days later - very poor signage, and hidden on a brow (from memory)]

Rhys,
Quality piece of road alteration I know. The first time I came through nearly wiped out a car emerging from the chip shop. I think you will find its part of the agreement for all the new houses being built down at Weyford between Lindford & Bordon.
Yet again the main road gets stopped to let people out of a side road. Almost as good as the one at Wreccelsham.
Still there you go mate, what next?
Probably someone will come up with the idea of a new crossing with all the bells and whistles and then employ a lollipop lady to still stand there as well!
No! they wouldn't do that, would they?

This roundabout - how long has it been there? I travelled past there not too long ago and hopefully didnt drive through it??
If like the Wrecclesham one - that really doesn't seem to have worked at all, traffic comming down the side road is still backed up because of constant flowing main road. All it has done is make it slower, and more dangerous because no-one seems to indicate where they want to go!!

I myself have been caught out on both these roundabouts. first on the Wrecclesham one some time ago then on the Lindford one only last week. i didnt realise it was there right until the last minute when i saw a car turning right in front of me. i did manage to stop in time due to my quick reaction. I had been through there a couple of weeks before when they had the temporary lights but just thought they were only digging up the road. i did recall seeing a roundabout sign but did not think it was there as when i went through the previous time there was no roundabout. signing is not obvious enough if you are an occasional user of this stretch of road.

Yes, I drove straight over it before I realised it was there!
I can't think of any good reason why it's been put there. The traffic from the side road isn't exactly heavy. What a waste of council tax-payers' money!

Funny that, I thought it was just me.
I went sailing across the roundabout the first time I came across it, thought the aliens had landed and played a prank.
Just goes to show, HCC can spend money on this and other ridiculous changes but they cant sort out a major traffic problem around the schools in Liphook despite myself and others carping on about it for decades.
Now I understand why it's so easy to become so cynical, (or is it a stage you get to when you reach a certain age?)
Best wishes
Barry

Just a thought, was this roundabout funded by the council, or would it have been provided from the revenue received from the large housing estate they are now building down that road, a bit like the road improvement funds given to passfield roads from the developers of their new houses??

It's almost as good as the relatively new pedestrian crossing that is situated on a speed bump coming into haslemere high street.
Perhaps this new roundabout will stay for a few months and then be taken out like the islands along the same road that were equally useless.

I pass four times across this one every week day and it is a pain. The visibility is poor and due to the elevation of the road the roundabout is practically invisible until the last few yards. The signage needs to be improved. I donot see any reason for this traffic hazard to exist.

I was lucky enough to be in the passenger seat when her indoors found it . Good job i had my seat belt on and i was hanging on for dear life after the curb crunching 5 minutes earlier. Why dont they sign these road changes clearly ? But hey! as she said " you should have told me it was there " I said " if i had my eyes open at the time i would have"......

Nearly broke my neck today - and that was AFTER reading this thread!!!
I just didn't see it - luckily the lady that pulled out to my left (who I nearly hit) wasn't too irate about it.
What a bloody disaster zone

Purplecurly,
If the lady pulled out to your left she was in the wrong. You had right of way as you would have been on her right hand side.
