Carnival!
- Jerry (26th Oct 2012 - 15:42:36)

Hello all, The carnival will be kicking of tomorrow ! which is excellent as always! hope you all have fun.

The real reason i am writing this is to bring to your attention something that has been bothering me... The carnival is a yearly event for the community by the community, it brings lots of trade to local business, which is a good thing, but over the past few years you have been allowing burger vans and other fast food vans as such to park near local food businesses, for example, the chip shop down headly road suffers due to the the burger vans which park near there, i dont see how this is fair ?, i was wondering if next year local businesses could be thought about abit more!
what are you opinions on this ??

Rightly or wrongly there have been fast food outlets at the Carnival for as long as I can remember. (And erm.. that goes back a bit!). I think the local outlets might be swamped otherwise.

For the record, the burger vans, candy floss and hot chestnut vendors pay Liphook Carnival Committee for the concession to trade through the village on Carnival night.

Despite their presence I am sure that the chip shop in Headley Road and the other fast food outlets in Station Road will do more business on Carnival night because the locals recognise them for the quality of their food.

Having said that the Carnival makes precious little after paying for bands, fireworks etc so please will everyone remember to bring along lots of loose change to fill the buckets and tins. Whatever is collected, after the above expenses, goes to straight local charities.

the carnival would not be the same without the smells of fast food and candy floss. its a tradition of liphook.
the takeaway and chip shops would never be able to cope with the amount of people that come to the carnival.
jerrys comment made me laugh.
and the traders pay to be here.
i have lived in liphook for 38 years so have seen a few carnivals, can remember the hog roasts and massive fair that used to be here before the bypass.

Do the vans pay a fixed fee, if so how much, or do they just make a "donation"?

As Paul has said that Liphook Carnival could not carry on if it was not for the money that was raised to support it. We at Anchor Garage are putting a float in tonight for you to throw all your loose change into so please look out for us.
