COUNTRYWIDE....WOW !!
- johnw (1st Jul 2007 - 14:04:50)

Well, like a lot of people I was slightly sceptical of what to expect from the new people at the old Somerfield store but all I can say is having visited them on their opening day yesterday is "WOW !!"

What a fantastic store for Liphook - they've done wonders with the place - really brightens up Station Road - let's hope it's the beginning of a regeneration of the area. They're obviously attracting business so let's hope more people will take a chance on opening up the empty shops in this end of town. Large companies don't open in areas that don't have prospects - they've done their research and Countrywide have spent a fortune on the place so they obviously think Liphook's a good bet.

The range of products is amazing and ok, I know it was their first day, but the staff were really friendly and helpful - well done Countrywide !!

Well that's great - let's hope it can liven things up a bit down "That End". But what about good old Dene's round the corner - wonder how they feel? Are they doing the same kind of goods? Will stick to Dene's for now.

I hope they do bring extra people to station road who also use the shops that have served our community for a long while too. Nice, clean, bright and certainly have products that are not available locally. BUT beware their prices are on the expensive side and I have noted that a number of products are much CHEAPER in the Hardware Store and Pet shop i.e. a water butt in country wide is £49.99 - £34.99(as of Sunday am) in Liphook Hardware - for exactly the same one!!.

John

In response to your question is other units going to be filled, only last week one shopowner stated that ALL the empty units are under negotiations with their respective Landlords - so we may not have to wait much longer

Yes, I had a long look around this afternoon. Nicely laid out, and good of them to invest in Liphook but as pointed out above A LOT of what they sell can be found in the existing shops in the village at a far lower cost.

Obvously they are confident....I wish them the best of luck.

Candyfloss,

I don't know if you actually want a water butt - can't think why anyone would at the moment - but if you do, check the water companies. They all seem to be doing special deals to sell you something that will make you use less of their main product. Very odd!

Thats because you use less of their product .. but still pay the same !!

Liphook Hardware is Cheaper than all the big stores . And you dont have to drive , so you save on fuel ..

The prices are outrageous! And they claim to stock just about everything in their advertising - did anyone check out the angling section? What a joke!

I don't think John and June at Hiscock's or Dene's have much to worry about.

Their prices are incredibly dear.

Furthermore I heard people saying the 20% discount (as advertised on their website) was not being applied to products they bought.

Local and independent = Better

Hi,
They have a great range of horse whips i have noticed, some under a fiver.
My wife thinks they are great!

Freddie

You are correct - they do say that they stock everything - but not much of it. For the most part each 'section' was very limited, apart from 'pets' and footware the choice just isn't there. Lets hope that it is like this for them to guage what products sell best, but I would have thought they should already have an idea as they have 40 stores!!. I was looking at the camping/walking section in particular and found it very disappointing. It would be nice to get some feed back from the other shops over the next few weeks to see if it has increased trade.

I still think it is a vast improvement on an empty site, but a food hall would have been much better!! I hope they will increase the sections that do not directly compete with others, and offer Liphook shoppers and visitors products that no one else stocks.

Did anyone see the garden tools section....all three of them ?

New Countrywide store looks impressive, I was hoping to find a stylish, cheap pair of wellies last weekend but was astounded to find I could choose between two different pairs but both cost over £35.00. Quite a lot to pay for something that would have been shortly caked in mud! (Will get them from Asda instead).

Everybody and I mean everybody, I saw leaving the shop on that day was carrying a dog bed (same colour, size and style) so a similar scenario to buing clothes from Sainsburys. I turned up at a party last Friday to be greeted with the words 'Oh, I've got that top aswell, and I nearly wore it tonight..' Great, I thought, now she knows how much I don't spend on my clothes. So getting back to the point, all dogs in Liphook will now be sleeping on the same bed, except mine, I am a Hiscocks girl through and through. There is nothing those people in that shop don't know about animals and their welfare. You can ask them anything, so knowledgable, so helpful, so friendly, so PLEASE keep on supporting them......
