mobile broadband 3g signal

Just signed up for a 30 day rolling contract with Virgin for an unlimited data package for a smart phone. Rubbish reception. Only 2g calls and text and e mail seems to work. Also Virgin does not support Skype.
Anybody any suggestions of a good 3g unlimited data provider on rolling contract? Anybody using the 3 network unlimited data 30 day rolling sim deal?
Heard negative reports on 3, poor customer service with limited English etc etc.
Do not want a long term contract

Try GiffGaff. I think they use the O2 network. My Son used it for a while. All top ups done online, was very easy. We used their Goody Bags.
