Where is Louise?
- gen (19th Jun 2007 - 19:28:43)
Nothing from Louise lately - away? Saw a rat running from the flats towards the rear of the Health Centre. Didn't look as if the Pest man had had much effect - unless that was yet another joke that I have taken at face value...
Thought she might have answered the Ode - sorry Steve (Bedtime stories).

Gen, Where did I imply I did not understand the meaning of the word Ode, as you seem fit to involve me in yet another of your postings.
It seems to me it was not long ago you were falling out your pram regarding my suggestion about the vacant post of traffic warden for the village.
It wasn't me who asked about getting veggies from Riverford, and it would be nice to get them local rather than people who get them sent up from Devon!
It wasn't me who asked about various produce from PRC, and where are they!
It wasn't me who missed the fact the smoking ban starts on the 1st July (Quality Mike, by the way).
It wasn't me who went down a local pub and paid £32 quid for couple of moo burgers. mmmmm!

Sorry Steve, not quite sure where all that came from. I didn't think I'd implied you didn't understand anything? It was merely a reference to your heartfelt No! when Liza asked if anyone wanted news of Janet-the-Planet (which I realise wasn't on the Ode thread (which I didn't start) but on the Bedtime thread (which I also didn't start). I was joking, or trying to joke, shouldn't attempt things I'm not very good at.
Sorry you obviously dislike me so much, I can assure you I can't help not understanding when someone is joking, it is a cross I have to bear.
I wish I were a bit brighter, it must be my age with my failing intellect.
All the things you say are undoubtedly true, so sorry everyone for joining in so enthusiastically and boring you all to tears, I enjoyed it all so much, haven't had so much fun in years, it seemed as if I suddenly had a bunch of friends in an area where I am a stranger.

Take no notice of Steve, Gen. Carry on with your posts the rest of us are not so mean!

Gen,
It does seem that you are not too good at having your leg pulled!. Some of peoples postings contain all sorts of cross references, and 'digs' - some of which you seem to get and others you take personally. Like yourself who does enjoy a tease, so do others - I know it is hard when you don't see facial expressions, but try to take most things with a 'pinch of salt'. The odes thing is very cleaver, but to be honest after a while - becomes a little boring - like a number of previous subjects!!
(my favourite misunderstanding was John's computer screen - size does matter - went completely over your head!!)
Keep it up - you are very entertaining and cleaver

..And also a lot of people are still unaware of the 'curse of email'. i.e. It's very easy to type out a quick and "hilarious" comment with no thought, which just sounds nasty when read of context - even though that wasn't the intention.

Very true Liz....posts, either in prose or verse, can sometimes sound offensive when no offence was probably meant!!
The truth is that if you're going to take part in a public forum you can't afford to be too sensitive....actually posters on Liphook.co are far more polite than some I've come across on other websites :D

So now we go for the sympathy vote. Where did I state I dislike you so much, don't even know you. You seem fit to fling it around but then get all flustered when it comes back. Take your little ditties on the Where's Gen thread about men, lets just say I had written that about women. There would have been uproar on here especially from certain individuals, I would have been branded a sexist and accused of putting another women in her box.
Amusing as some find them, bore the living daylights out of me, but I still take them as they are meant, a bit of fun and certainly do not take offence. Would they be taken the other way round, I think not!

Re: Where is Louise?
- Gen (20th Jun 2007 - 21:01:34)
I suppose no one forces you to read things you don't enjoy - there are threads occasionally that don't interest me greatly, so I don't read them too thoroughly.
Perhaps I am too sensitive - we all probably have some areas of insecurity and others can sometimes find the Achilles heel. I do try not to be gratuitously nasty unless provoked - and even them I usually wish I'd just ignored what upset me. Generally I try to be truthful and sincere and not to hurt people who have done me no harm.
The rhyming doggerel was meant as a bit of fun and several of us enjoyed them. You are bored by them and so we'll stop.
Perhaps you will suggest something creative for us to bend our wit to?
As for the bit about the 'sympathy vote', that is ridiculous and I can't be bothered to deal with that.

Re: Where is Louise?
- Steve Read (20th Jun 2007 - 21:55:13)
Gen,
You appear to have a talent for turning things around to suit your rather narrow view. Because I do not find the little ditties in the slightest bit interesting, have I asked you to stop? NO! On any particular thread because I might disagree does that mean that thread has to stop? NO! Primarily do I care? NO!
Other individuals who have posted against you have been shown up for their spelling mistakes, why? They are entitled to an opinion just the same as you and me, because they might not wish or be able to spell correctly does that make their view any less worthy? NO!
Obviously this site to some has replaced Day Time TV, I wish you all the best but as you like to remind us all of your age on various threads I might suggest there is still room for some growing up especially when people might just disagree with you or have a different perspective on issues.
I speak how I see things and fully expect to get shot back at. Thats the big difference, plus as we have gone over countless times before on here at least I don't hide behind a silly handle for a name or just my first name on the posting.

Most people use one name and you haven't shot them down.
Get lost, Steve.

Steve, I think you need to take Eneida's general advice about not taking posts too seriously. You've made your views on women quite clear in previous posts - in jest of course I assume. I'm sure Gen's 'dittys' as you call them were also mean't in fun. Stop being a bully and leave her alone to make her posts. A far as I can see she has said nothing offensive. If you find some posts boring -Tough. Presumably no-one is forcing you to read them. Time to grow up.

Liz,
In all fairness I think Steve has made a good general point too!
If you criticise someone, make fun of them or ridicule their opinions, then don't be surprised if they do the same to you with bells on....something we should all keep in mind I guess :)

And also to be fair (although it has to be said I haven't read all the posts -so potential deep water here!) I can't see that Gen has ridiculed Steve in particular. Steve's repeated tirades against someone who appeared to intend no malice seemed a bit overdone, that's all. Gen was obviously a bit shocked by the reponse, as was I. (For the record I don't know either of them - just responding to these posts!)

Re: Where is Louise?
- Gen (21st Jun 2007 - 18:18:46)
Liz, I wouldn't get involved if I were you. You sound to be a thoroughly nice person. I think if people read the posts they will see that I have never attacked anyone unless they have been nasty first, and sometimes, when Sue was being attacked in the same way I tried to pour oil on troubled water too.
Now she appears to have left - and I think that a lot of what she said was sensible and helpful. She was a bit too close to it all, too affected by the outcome and sometimes that makes one get too passionate about things.
You get all sorts of people on the boards, some are control freaks, others, jolly pleasant and amusing, the sort you'd be happy to spend an hour or two with, having a chat. Novel amusement if you're tied to the house for whatever reason.
Anyway, thank you for springing to my defence, I appreciate it.
Be nice if we had a ladies' talkback as well, it would be much gentler and with a different sort of humour - on the whole!

Re: Where is Louise?
- Candyfloss (21st Jun 2007 - 19:28:39)
There seems to be an awful lot of 'pot calling the kettle black' in some of these posts!!
I think at times EVERYONE has said something that has been taken badly by someone else - or the person it has been aimed at, I remember not to long ago some posts to a certain business woman being dreadful by more than just a few.!!
It is very hard not to take things personally, when some of the comments are obviously intended to be hurtful.
As liz said, perhaps more care should be made in what we write, but I also know, some people write as they speak, and spell the same way. It doesn't always mean that they are inferior, unintelligent, or nasty, we are just different. Something we should be proud of.

Re: Where is Louise?
- gen (21st Jun 2007 - 20:28:51)
For goodness sake!
Someone said 'Who is Gen' and mark said, 'Gen is some one who has no taste buds and who cant read a recipt proberly.. ' (this because, personally, I didn't find the Links burgers 'special' and they cost me £30 for 2 with a small glass of wine, on the Links thread that was specifically about food that was recommended ).
Until that point, I had never heard of mark, let alone attacked him.
So I said only 'But Mark - I can spell!'
That is hardly (to quote) ...It doesn't always mean that they are inferior, unintelligent, or nasty, we are just different...

Gen
It was a GENERALIZATION!! - about ALL of us. Note the word 'EVERYONE'. Not at all aimed to a specific comment or post.

Re: Where is Louise?
- gen (22nd Jun 2007 - 13:35:15)
Sorry, Candyfloss - it was beginning to feel like a gen-bashing site, so forgive me for being unduly sensitive - I am still smarting from the early postings. Shouldn't let it get to me. probably easier not to look at the website at all - except that a lot of the time I really enjoy it and find it lighthearted and helpful!
Let's move on!

Gen,
Apart from Steve's posts to you, everybody else was speaking in general terms and not about you in particular.
Please don't start another 'poor little me' argument !!
Nobody is out to bash you as far as I can see...why don't you just keep posting and enjoy the site. In the past it's always been very friendly, with hardly any arguments and I've been using it for a few years now.

I agree, there has never been any problems before on this site.
If you are so easy to wind up and can't control your emotions maybe you shouldn't visit this site anymore because frankly it's putting a lot of people off.
I mean if it's this easy to wind you up over the internet how easy is it to wind you up in person?
