Fruit trees
- Suzy (17th Oct 2012 - 09:41:11)

I am interested to know if anyone has purchased any fruit trees from Southern Fruit Trees ?, previously Blackmoor Plant Centre.

This it would appear at first sight to be a genuine organisation, with a small web site, and a setting that you can visibly see from the lane. However if you try & visit the place, with a view to purchase, you are declined entry, by a man with a brusque attitude. Asking 'can I help'.

You are not made welcome to look around, & anything you may mention you are looking for 'I don't have that', is the stock response. We visited on Sat.am. [ as open on the web site]
You can in fact see the trees, both from the lane, & the car park, but that is all.

Is this just someone's hobby ? They certainly don't appear to try & sell anything at all.

Any one been here ?, it's at Blackmoor.

We are in the market place for some cordons and a fan - if there's anywhere you are aware of selling these locally, do tell !

I bought two apple trees from them last spring and at that point they were next to the Farm Shop, but I know they moved.

I does say on their website that they are open Saturdays only until end October and to call Mike before visiting, but after 1 November it looks like they are open 6 days a week.

If you do a search on Blackmoor, there is an online website linked to the Blackmoor Estate (www.blackmoor.co.uk) but this is online only.

Blackmoor had an open day & apple tasting day last Sunday, it would have been ideal for you to go visit, taste and they were selling fruit trees. It happens every October and is worth visiting as it has many things apart from the apple tasting.

Hope you get the apples that you are after
