NITS NITS NITS
- Angry Mother (16th Oct 2012 - 20:24:33)
Yet again my child has come home with NITS, I check every week, keep her hair up and do all that I can to keep a nit free family. But, oh what joy, I checked her hair tonight and found them.
PLEASE PLEASE can everyone check their children, it won't take long and we might have nit free schools.

Most irritating! Has anyone told her class teacher? If the rest of the class know, then perhaps you could all 'do' the children on the same weekend. Have you tried any of the deterrent type things? I hear tea-tree oil based products are available.
My biggest gripe is the cost of the treatment! I expect there are quite a few people that don't have £10 to spare - I wonder how it could be sourced more cheaply, to encourage wider usage.
We had a school-wide nit-busting weekend last year - perhaps we need another one!
Anyway, I shall make the necessary checks this evening! I'm scratching now!!!

I have been using vosene for kids shampoo and a vosene leave in conditioner for kids for the past 2 years every day and we have not had any nits. It cost less £5 for both, both are available from boots. Not sure if they sell it in the chemist here.

I have tried all the things on the market, but will give the vosene ( I have tried other shampoos ect.....)
I have a NIT free child, after much shouting and screaming. I got to watch the Great British Bake off all is right with the world again
But please please check your children, lets make Liphook a nit free place.

I cannot recommend the nitty gritty nit comb enough, its expensive but it catches all the nits and gets rid of all the eggs.
Unfortunately it always takes just one parent not to do there child and it goes round again.
The other problem is also that some children are just more prone to it than others, I have two daughters and one always seems to catch them and the other has only ever had it once.

This tip more for the boys more than the girls. Cut the hair as short as possible. No hair = no nits. And if you have boys and girls (half the work to go nit hunting as well). I appreciate that having boys with very short hair does not appeal to everyone, but it does wonders for hyginere when boys are out getting dirty and playing sport, etc.

A really cheap alternative is to buy very cheap conditioner, lather it on the hair and leave it for 10 mins, then comb it through with a nit comb (which my childrens school gave out for free when my children attended) and rinse, repeat the process a week later and voila nit free!
The cheap thick conditioner makes it impossible for the nits to stick to the hair shaft.

I have to say, my daughter is in the infants and we have never had nits. I check my daughter at least once a week (can't stand creepy crawlies). I do always tie her hair back for school. Maybe she has just been extremely lucky??
