Local Saturday Jobs for Teenagers
- purplecurly (11th Jun 2007 - 10:43:20)

My son, now 15, is talking about getting a weekend job.

The Herald doesn't seem to cater for this sort of area - any ideas?

Hello

Does he like football? My son of 15 has become a referee and gets £12-£17 per game depending on the age range. He does games local to Liphook. Not a bad earner for a few hours doing something he loves. Obviously its quiet at the moment but there are still tournaments going on.

If this appeals let me know and I'll pass on the details of how to get into it.

If he wants to earn a fiver occasionally, he can come and wash my car!

Hiya

As someone who runs a shop may I suggest the following.

Your son writes himself a CV. Even if he hasn't any work experience, his interests etc are a useful pointer to the kind of person he is, makes a handful of copies, makes himself look presentable and go into some local shops etc. Even if they don't have vacancies at that moment the fact that he has made the effort means that most likely his CV will be kept on record, and he'll be well up on the list when there is a job available.

In the first week that we opened we had loads of youngsters coming in asking for jobs. The girl who was offered the position gave us a CV telling us about herself. Two years later we are still very happy with the decision, and she is still working for us weekends and in the holidays.

Regards, and best of luck to your son

Good Plan!

I hadn't really thought about a CV for a 15 year old but I suppose it makes sense. Up until now we just look throught the local paper every week.

Thanks for your input
